2021 NFL Draft Grades: Round 2
How do the draft grades shape up for Round 2 of the 2021 NFL Draft?
33. Jacksonville Jaguars: Tyson Campbell, CB, Georgia
The Jacksonville Jaguars addressed their need at CB with Tyson Campbell. The long, athletic, speedy, cornerback has the potential to line up across from 2020 first-round pick C.J. Henderson on Sundays. However, they had the opportunity to address a bigger need at safety with Trevon Moehrig on the board. A solid draft grade to kick off Day 2.
Grade: B
34. New York Jets: Elijah Moore, WR, Ole Miss
Elijah Moore is a ridiculously productive slot receiver who immediately projects as a difference-maker for the New York Jets. This selection could pave the way for the Jets to move on from Jamison Crowder.
Grade: B+
35. Denver Broncos (from Atlanta Falcons): Javonte Williams, RB, North Carolina
Javonte Williams is no doubt a very strong running back, with the density, explosiveness, and versatility to be a workhorse. It will be interesting to see his role for the Denver Broncos in 2021 with Melvin Gordon also on the roster.
Grade: B
36. Miami Dolphins (from Houston Texans): Jevon Holland, S, Oregon
Jevon Holland brings explosion and incredible playmaking ability to the Miami Dolphins‘ secondary. His acquisition will go some way to replacing the production at the heart of the defense that had been lost with the trade of Minkah Fitzpatrick to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Grade: B
37. Philadelphia Eagles: Landon Dickerson, C, Alabama
Landon Dickerson is a first-round talent. The value from tape is right there for the taking, and it certainly should give the Philadelphia Eagles a certain attitude up front. Injuries are a concern, but if he is healthy, this is a superb selection. Dickerson receives our first A grade on Day 2 of the draft.
Grade: A-
38. New England Patriots (from Cincinnati Bengals): Christian Barmore, DT, Alabama
Christian Barmore meets a considerable need for the New England Patriots. Explosive and agile, Barmore could use to add some bulk to his frame. However, he should add to a Patriots’ defensive line that struggled in 2020. Barmore makes it two A grades with back-to-back selections early in Round 2 of the draft.Â
Grade: A-
39. Chicago Bears (from Carolina Panthers): Teven Jenkins, OT, Oklahoma State
Teven Jenkins is a first-round caliber prospect who brings an attitude unmatched by any OT in the 2021 class. The Chicago Bears add some OL protection for their new QB in Justin Fields.
Grade: A+
40. Atlanta Falcons (from Denver Broncos): Richie Grant, S, UCF
An instinctive, playmaking safety, Richie Grant adds a young dimension and talent to the Atlanta Falcons’ defense lacking in playmakers. He could be an immediate starter for this defense in 2021.
Grade: A+
41. Detroit Lions: Levi Onwuzurike, DT, Washington
Levi Onwuzurike is a high-level prospect with the explosiveness and flexibility to be a threat as a pass rusher. He addresses a need upfront for the Detroit Lions and the value is solid. This gives us five straight A grades inside the first 10 picks of Day 2 of the 2021 NFL Draft.
Grade: A-
42. Miami Dolphins (from New York Giants): Liam Eichenberg, OT, Notre Dame
Liam Eichenberg has been the anchor of a Fighting Irish offensive line that has been particularly dominant in the ground game. It is expected he may switch to guard in the NFL, which could see the Dolphins leave Robert Hunt at right tackle in 2021.
Grade: B+
43. Las Vegas Raiders (from San Francisco 49ers): Trevon Moehrig, S, TCU
Trevon Moehrig presents a massive upgrade for a Las Vegas Raiders team that desperately needed a free safety. This is excellent value after the Raiders are perceived to have reached in the first round.
Grade: A+
44. Dallas Cowboys: Kelvin Joseph, CB, Kentucky
Kelvin Joseph has first-round caliber play on his résumé. He possesses the movement skills to be a legitimate CB1 in the NFL, but he must become more consistent in his technique to get there. However, with the Dallas Cowboys‘ secondary, he could be a starter sooner rather than later.
Grade: B
45. Jacksonville Jaguars (from Minnesota Vikings): Walker Little, OT, Stanford
Walker Little was outstanding when he was on the field at Stanford. However, he hasn’t been on the field for two years. The Jaguars address an important need at tackle, but whether they can get value out of Little is questionable.
Grade: C+
46. Cincinnati Bengals (from New England Patriots): Jackson Carman, OT, Clemson
There were superior tackles on the board, but Jackson Carman possesses some position versatility. He could plug in and potentially start at multiple positions along the Cincinnati Bengals‘ offensive line.
Grade: C-
47. Los Angeles Chargers: Asante Samuel Jr., CB, Florida State
Asante Samuel is a feisty, scrappy corner with great chops in man coverage. He fits what Brandon Staley and the Los Angeles Chargers want to do on defense as he offers inside/outside versatility.
Grade: A
48. San Francisco 49ers (from Las Vegas Raiders): Aaron Banks, G, Notre Dame
Aaron Banks is an experienced, powerful guard prospect that the San Francisco 49ers should see start relatively soon after his selection. The lower body stiffness makes the fit in the 49ers’ scheme a question mark.
Grade: C+
49. Arizona Cardinals: Rondale Moore, WR, Purdue
Rondale Moore is a miniature receiver, but he’s got great contact balance and is a blur as a runner. He might be the most explosive athlete in the draft class and brings a lot of potential to the Arizona Cardinals. However, the Cardinals really needed to address their concerns at CB here, and already had a lot of weapons at wide receiver, making this pick a questionable one. This selection receives the worst draft grade so far on Day 2.
Grade: D+
50. New York Giants (from Miami Dolphins): Azeez Ojulari, OLB, Georgia
Azeez Ojulari is one of the most explosive and dynamic edge rushers in the 2021 class. Injury concerns caused him to drop, but he could be a Day 1 starter for the New York Giants. This selection kicks off a run of A grades in the middle of Round 2 of the draft.
Grade: A+
51. Washington Football Team: Samuel Cosmi, OT, Texas
Samuel Cosmi has elite athleticism and overwhelming power. He has the natural physical traits to be a high-level starter in time. This is a home run pick for a Washington team that needs to have one eye on the future of their offensive line.
Grade: A
52. Cleveland Browns (from Chicago Bears via Carolina Panthers): Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, LB, Notre Dame
Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah is a safety-sized linebacker who has been a dominant force for Notre Dame, displaying explosive ability to come downfield and hit you in the mouth. Getting a first-round talent in the middle of the second round makes this a great value for the Cleveland Browns. After a slide down the draft, Owusu-Koramoah receives a solid draft grade midway through Round 2.
Grade: A-
53. Tennessee Titans: Dillon Radunz, OT, NDSU
Dillon Radunz is a great athlete who impressed many scouts in Mobile. He immediately replaces Isaiah Wilson and could start at right tackle immediately. There were perhaps better tackles for the Tennessee Titans available, but Radunz is a solid player in his own right.
Grade: B+
54. Indianapolis Colts: Dayo Odeyingbo, DE, Vanderbilt
The Indianapolis Colts got an explosive, disruptive pass rusher in Vanderbilt’s Dayo Odeyingbo. He has strong hands, with phenomenal short-area quickness and agility. The torn Achilles is a concern if he cannot get that explosiveness back.
Grade: B-
55. Pittsburgh Steelers: Pat Freiermuth, TE, Penn State
Pat Freiermuth brings a masterful blend of physicality, size, route running, and strong hands that should allow the Pittsburgh Steelers to get the successor to Eric Ebron. A solid value, but not addressing the offensive line raises question marks.
Grade: B+
56. Seattle Seahawks: D’Wayne Eskridge, WR, Western Michigan
D’Wayne Eskridge is an electric playmaker who provides elite yards after catch ability. He’s also a strong return man and can carry the ball out of the backfield for the Seattle Seahawks. It’s an odd selection given the Seahawks’ needs at other positions.
Grade: C-
57. Los Angeles Rams: Tutu Atwell, WR, Louisville
Tutu Atwell is one of the fastest players in the class, small in stature but big in impact. Not addressing needs on the defense to add another receiver is an odd move from the Los Angeles Rams. Back-to-back C- grades towards the back end of Round 2 of this draft is intriguing given both are NFC West teams.
Grade: C-
58. Kansas City Chiefs (from Baltimore Ravens): Nick Bolton, LB, Missouri
Based on tape alone, Nick Bolton might be the most polished linebacker in the class. After his mediocre testing results, he was expected to fall a little as he did. The Kansas City Chiefs filled a need at linebacker with an impressive player.
Grade: A
59. Carolina Panthers (from Cleveland Browns): Terrace Marshall Jr., WR, LSU
Terrace Marshall is reunited with Joe Brady now with the Carolina Panthers. There are medical concerns with Marshall, but this is a nice pickup for Carolina at great value.
Grade: B+
60. New Orleans Saints: Pete Werner, LB, Ohio State
Pete Werner is an elite coverage piece who could be the starting WILL from Week 1. After losing Alex Anzalone and Kwon Alexander this offseason, the New Orleans Saints desperately needed to add a linebacker, and they get one of the most complete options.
Grade: A-
61. Buffalo Bills: Carlos Basham Jr., DE, Wake Forest
The Buffalo Bills make it two similar pass rushers with their first two selections as they add Carlos Basham Jr. After struggling to get after Patrick Mahomes in the AFC Championship Game, it is not a huge surprise they are investing heavily in their pass rush.
Grade: B
62. Green Bay Packers: Josh Myers, C, Ohio State
Josh Myers brings versatility to the Green Bay Packers and can compete for a starting role with Elgton Jenkins. After losing Corey Linsley in free agency, this was an area of need for the Packers.
Grade: B
63. Kansas City Chiefs: Creed Humphrey, C, Oklahoma
The Chiefs get a top-10 talent in the class in Creed Humphrey at a position of need. Humphrey was viewed as a potential first-round selection so getting him at the back end of Round 2 is a great value.
Grade: A+
64. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Kyle Trask, QB, Florida
The selection of Kyle Trask is a head-scratcher for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. While they need to plan for the future, Trask has limited development potential. At least he is going to a team with great weapons. This selection brings Round 2 of the 2021 NFL Draft to a close with one of the worst grades of the entire draft.
