What Is the NFL Connections Game?

It's a daily football spin on the group-the-words puzzle. You get a 4x5 board of 20 names and sort them into five hidden groups of four, where each group shares some NFL link — a position, a team, an award, a draft class. The fun is in the misdirection: several names look like they belong in more than one group. It's free to play on Pro Football Network, with a new board every day.

How Do You Play NFL Connections?

Pick the four names you think share a connection and submit your guess. Nail it and the tiles lock in with that group’s color; miss and the board nudges you to rethink it. Clear all five connections to finish the puzzle. Because the trickiest names are built to fit two groups at once, you’re usually better off solving the connection you’re surest about first and narrowing the board from there.

How Does Scoring Work in NFL Connections?

Every connection you solve is worth 10 points. Reveal a hint and that connection’s value drops on a sliding scale, so the cleaner you solve, the more you keep. Speed counts too — a time bonus is added once you finish all five connections, starting at 300 and ticking down a point for each second you take.

What Are Hints, and How Much Do They Cost?

If a group has you stuck, you can reveal clues to point you toward the connection — but each one eats into that connection’s score. The first clue costs 10% of its points, and the cost climbs from there (30%, then 60%, then 70%) the more you reveal. Handy when you’re genuinely stumped, worth skipping when you’re chasing the leaderboard.

Is There a New Puzzle Every Day?

Yes — a fresh NFL Connections board drops daily, so there’s always a new five-group challenge waiting. Check back each day for the new puzzle and to see where your score lands on the leaderboard.

Do I Need an Account, and Is It Free?

The game’s completely free and you can start playing right away, no signup required. A free PFN account is optional — it just lets you save your results and post a score to the leaderboard.

What’s the Best Way To Solve the Puzzle?

Start with the connection you’re most confident about to thin out the board and cut the noise. Keep an eye on names that seem to fit two groups — those overlaps are the puzzle’s favorite trap — and hold your hints for a group that truly stumps you, since every clue costs points.
