NFL RB Impact Rankings

PFSN’s Running Back Impact (RBi) assigns a numerical score and a letter grade to an individual running back's performance. While the grade depends largely on rushing explosiveness and efficiency, we also weigh receiving and pass blocking efficiency. In addition, running backs who take a higher share of their team's carries will get a boost compared to those who shine in a more divided backfield committee.

A running back must average six rushes per team game to qualify for the season and game leaderboard. While that doesn’t sound like much, it gets a running back to just over 100 carries over a full 17-game season.

Derrick Henry, Baltimore Ravens

Derrick Henry set the pace among NFL running backs once again in 2024, helping Baltimore finish with an elite ground game and earning an A grade atop PFSN’s RB Impact leaderboard. With a 93.1 grade, Henry stood out for his elite volume, registering 325 carries and the top EPA per carry among all backs at 0.11. He forced a missed tackle on 46.2% of touches, ranking fifth, and he posted a 59.1% success rate in short-yardage situations, also ranking fifth-best. Henry’s blend of size and athleticism led to a 1.09 yards per route run average, showing he still offers receiving value when called upon. Henry’s durability and ability to break the will of defenses remain unmatched.

Jahmyr Gibbs, Detroit Lions

Jahmyr Gibbs elevated Detroit’s rushing attack in 2024, landing second in PFSN’s RB Impact metric with a B+ grade (89.9). Gibbs provided bursts of explosiveness, finishing the year with 250 touches and a league-best 0.14 EPA per carry. No running back gained more yards after contact per attempt (1.67) among the top-10, while Gibbs converted nearly 43% of his touches into successful plays, placing him in the top-12 leaguewide. Remarkably, he led all running backs in explosive run rate at 54%, giving Detroit a home-run option on almost every snap.

Saquon Barkley, Philadelphia Eagles

Saquon Barkley found renewed life in Philadelphia, finishing third in PFSN’s RB Impact metric with a B+ grade (89.1). Barkley shouldered 345 carries -- third-most among all backs -- and racked up a 0.10 EPA per carry, ranking fifth in that key efficiency measure. His 42% overall success rate further underlined his reliability. Barkley consistently picked up positive yardage, with a missed tackle rate of 42% and a top-five finish in explosive run rate at 40.9%. Barkley’s combination of power, agility, and vision gave the Eagles a reliable workhorse who ultimately helped them hoist the Lombardi Trophy.
