PFSN NFL QB Impact

PFSN’s Quarterback Impact (QBi) assigns a numerical score and a letter grade to an individual quarterback’s performance. We arrive at the grade by factoring in both passing and rushing efficiency and volume. More stable components like clean pocket performance and EPA per rush on designed runs get weighted more than less stable ones like pressure performance and scrambling. We also add a "clutch" component that gives extra weight to how quarterbacks perform in high-leverage situations.

To qualify for the season leaderboard, a QB must average at least 15 plays per game (dropbacks or designed runs) while playing in at least half his team's games that season. To qualify for the games leaderboard, a QB must have participated in at least 15 plays that game.

Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills

Josh Allen capped off the 2024 NFL season in unforgettable fashion, validating his reputation as one of the league’s most dynamic quarterbacks. With the Buffalo Bills riding high, Allen’s powerful arm and relentless running style kept defenses scrambling while he delivered clutch plays when it counted most. Stat lines alone tell a big story, but what truly set this year apart was how Allen elevated his game in critical moments, earning recognition across the league and from advanced analytics. PFSN’s Quarterback Impact (QBi) metric, which weighs a quarterback’s efficiency, volume, and performance in high-leverage situations, placed Allen in a league of his own for 2024. He finished with 3,731 passing yards, 28 passing touchdowns, and just six interceptions (his lowest mark yet), while adding 531 rushing yards and an eye-popping 12 rushing touchdowns. These totals came despite a shift to a more balanced Bills offense and a supporting cast in transition. Allen’s consistency inside the pocket and knack for converting critical plays in the red zone helped push Buffalo to new heights. The MVP award was the final stamp on a season that wasn’t just about big numbers, but about meeting moments with poise and grit.

Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens

Lamar Jackson’s extraordinary 2024 campaign turned heads across the NFL, earning him second place on the PFSN Quarterback Impact (QBi) leaderboard. The QBi metric weighs passing and rushing efficiency, including clutch play and high-leverage performance, and Jackson hit nearly every mark, thriving both through the air and on the ground. Jackson’s dual-threat impact stood out: he threw for 4,172 yards and a league-best 41 touchdowns with just four interceptions -- the first quarterback ever to post those numbers in a single season. His efficiency soared to 8.8 yards per attempt, and he rushed for 915 yards and four scores. The arrival of offensive coordinator Todd Monken has helped Jackson become a complete pocket passer, all while remaining lethal on designed runs and scrambles.

Jared Goff, Detroit Lions

Jared Goff’s rise to third on the PFSN Quarterback Impact (QBi) leaderboard stands out as a testament to the value of steady quarterback play in Detroit. Last season, Goff earned an A- grade by maintaining control in the pocket and stepping up when it mattered most. The Quarterback Impact metric puts extra weight on clean pocket performance and high-leverage plays, measuring both passing and rushing efficiency, with clutch moments factoring into the final grade. Detroit fans watched Goff regularly convert tough third and fourth downs, giving his team confidence late in closely contested games. The core of Goff’s success was his efficiency through the air. He finished with the second-highest net yards per attempt at 8.2, backed up by a clean EPA per dropback of 0.5, which helped drive sustained offensive drives across the season. Though Goff rarely ran, he made the most of designed rush opportunities, ranking third in EPA per rush (1.16) despite only five attempts. Detroit’s offense tied for fourth in conversion rates on critical downs (45%), further highlighting Goff’s impact when the stakes were highest.
