Live from the East-West Shrine Game: Practice Day Three

Welcome to day three of East-West Shrine Game practice. PFN's Tony Pauline is down in St. Petersburg to share the latest news and notes from the week.

Day three of practice at the East-West Shrine Game is always the fiercest day of practice all week. The East squad will kick things off today at 9:20 am ET. The West team will follow this afternoon, taking the field at 2:40 pm ET.

Yesterday, quarterback Kevin Davidson, running back Adrian Killins Jr., and wide receiver Mason Kinsey were the offensive standouts yesterday for the East team. Defensive tackle McTelvin Agim and safety Rodney Clemons led the defense.

For the West squad, running back James Robinson continued his strong week yesterday. The same can be said for linebacker Mykal Walker, who has impressed on both days.

Of course, not all the action has been on the field down in St. Petersburg this week. The latest buzz includes progress being made between the NFLPA and the owners on a new CBA.

PFN Draft Analyst and Insider Tony Pauline is at Tropicana Field for day three of practice and will bring us all of the latest news, notes, and buzz. And be sure to catch up on the rosters for each team, if you are unfamiliar.

Live observations from Tony Pauline at day three of East-West Shrine Game practice

9:15 AM ET: The East team practice will begin shortly.

9:50 AM ET: Wagner will have another participant in the Shrine Bowl as defensive tackle Chris Williams is a late addition to the West squad. I bathed Williams in praise during the season as he was an early riser in my column.

10:10 AM ET: WR Mason Kinsey is making it easy for the QBs in red-zone drills. He is so quick and such a good route runner, no one can cover him.

10:15 AM ET: South Carolina’s Tavien Feaster has looked terrific in blocking drills this morning.

10:15 AM ET: Michigan’s Mike Danna just annihilated UNC’s Charlie Heck with a great inside move during the full scrimmage.

10:20 AM ET: Rhode Island’s Kyle Murphy is having another strong day. He needs to get stronger and learn to finish blocks but he has great fundamentals with upside.

10:20 AM ET: Northwestern’s Joe Gaziano has been playing a lot of DT here at the Shrine Bowl practices.

10:25 AM ET: RI’s Aaron Parker made a beautiful catch during red zone drills. He looks like a solid late-round/possession type receiver.

10:30 AM ET: Michigan’s Jon Runyan has had a lot of good reps in drills today.

10:40 AM ET: Yet another nice end zone grab from Aaron Parker. He is having a good practice on what is the most important day.

10:55 AM ET: Clemson’s Diondre Overton is participating in practice today and just made a sensational grab in the end zone. He can be a PFA who is going to surprise at the next level.

10:55 AM ET: Georgia’s Eli Wolf has looked good in all aspects today. I still don’t know if I like him as a TE or FB.

11:00 AM ET: WF’s Jake Benzinger has struggled to handle the speed rush of Charlotte’s Alex Highsmith.

11:05 AM ET: Michigan’s Danna is having a huge day of practice.

11:05 AM ET: QB Kevin Davidson did a solid job during the two-minute drill. He showed a lot of poise under duress. He needs to learn touch and take a little off his throws on occasion.

11:10 AM ET: Terrific reception in the corner of the end zone by Isaiah Wright just now.

2:50 PM ET: Final West pads practice underway. Calvin Throckmorton is back out at right tackle.

2:55 PM ET: Indiana’s Nick Westbrook showing strong hands. They are firing passes at him and Westbrook has no problem snatching the ball from the air.

2:55 PM ET: Illinois linebacker Dele Harding looks really good in coverage drills. He is smooth and very fluid in his drops.

2:55 PM ET: Nick Westbrook also uses his hands well to separate from defenders.

3:00 PM ET: Notre Dame RB Tony Jones has ripped off a few impressive runs today.

3:05 PM ET: Kelly Bryant delivered a beautiful back corner end zone pass to Nick Westbrook. Bryant has done that a couple of times this week. I wish he would do it more often.

3:10 PM ET: Once again Missouri’s Johnathan Johnson has been impossible to stop due to his quickness and route-running ability.

3:10 PM ET: SDSU’s Luq Barcoo and WVU’s Keith Washington both struggling badly at the start of practice.

3:30 PM ET: TCU’s Cordel Iwuagwu has been the only lineman that stopped Bravvion Roy this week. He was squared up on the big DT and sealed him. He is a great technician that will get better as he gets bigger and stronger.

3:35 PM ET: Utah’s John Penisini has looked good. A lot of scouts have praised Penisini this week.

3:35 PM ET: On just his second snap, Wagner’s Chris Williams had a huge play pulling an arm over move on Zach Shackelford and stopping the RB at the line of scrimmage.

3:40 PM ET: Reggie Corbin again displaying terrific quickness and the ability to create on his runs.

3:45 PM ET: Calvin Throckmorton is struggling to handle the speed rushers in one-on-one. He was badly beaten by Montana State’s Bryce Sterk.

3:50 PM ET: Mizzou’s Kelly Bryant is having his best day of practice.

4:10 PM ET: After a couple of solid days, Michigan State’s Raequan Williams is getting handled today.
