Top 10 NFL Trade Candidates: Calvin Ridley, Jakobi Meyers Among Players We Expect To See Moved

We are approaching Week 8, and the trade deadline is approaching fast. Some pieces have moved, but most of the major chips remain with their teams. After the games are played this weekend, I expect this to be one of the more active deadlines in a long time. Here are the pieces that I expect to be on the move.

10) Calvin Ridley, Tennessee Titans

With the Titans having just one win in six games, and Cam Ward not leaning on Calvin Ridley too much, they don’t have much need for him and his potentially expiring contract. Ridley is a deep threat, as he is tied for 16th-best in the league with an average of 18.7 yards per reception. Look for a team that needs a receiver to bring him in and utilize him as a second or third option, and for him to fit into a role with less attention from the defense nicely and help the team out.

Potential Suitors: San Francisco 49ers, New England Patriots

9) DeMario Davis, New Orleans Saints

One of the league’s true good guys is as fierce as any and looks really strong in his age-36 season. Davis has never missed a game since he came into the league in 2012, and has had at least 90 tackles in the last 12 seasons, with 110 tackles in seven of those seasons. With the Saints not going anywhere this season and with eyes on the future, they would be wise to take any and every call that comes in on any of their veterans. There are a lot of teams that could use his presence in the locker room and on the field.

Potential Suitors: New England Patriots, Dallas Cowboys

8) Logan Wilson, Cincinnati Bengals

Logan Wilson has been a staple and a rare bright spot in this Cincinnati Bengals defense since he joined the team in 2020. It has to be frustrating for players like him who really give it their all, and their defensive unit just doesn’t have the talent to compete as a whole even if they have a few really good players. But Wilson never said a word about it until now.

This is a massive blow to a team whose future on that side of the ball already looks murky. It is interesting to see what the Bengals will do, as they are just a game back in the division to the Steelers, and Joe Flacco looks like a perfect fit to run the offense until Joe Burrow returns. I think they need guys who want to be there and build an identity on defense, and the rest will come.

Potential Suitors: Buffalo Bills, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

7) Marc Andrews, Baltimore Ravens

Marc Andrews and Lamar Jackson have a heck of a connection, and aside from the playoff drop, it has been nothing but success for him in Baltimore. Now, they have Isaiah Likely, who can hold it down until the offseason, where they decide to pursue a veteran or trust that they can develop another tight end similarly.

If they decide to go that route, they could get a decent return for Andrews, an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year. If they haven’t signed him yet, they may part ways at the end of the season anyway, so it would be wise to make this move even if they don’t see it as time to rebuild.

Potential Suitors: Denver Broncos, Seattle Seahawks

6) Breece Hall, New York Jets

Another game, unfortunately, meant another loss for the Jets, and at this point, they have no reason to hold on to any player on an expiring deal if they get calls on players. Breece Hall got into a committee somehow, after being the lead back for the team and not complaining about it until this year, but even then he just said he wanted to be free, as opposed to truly saying that he no longer wanted to be a Jet. Regardless, he is a great runner, averaging 4.5 yards per carry on a stagnant offense, right around his 4.6 career average. Trading for Hall could seriously impact the playoff race or the playoffs as a whole for a team.

Potential Destinations: Chicago Bears, Houston Texans

5) Jakobi Meyers, Las Vegas Raiders

When will this seemingly endless saga between Jakobi Meyers and the Raiders end? It seems increasingly likely that Meyers will be wearing a new uniform in short order. He has taken the high road, even in confirming a desire to be traded, saying, “if I am here, I’ll play good football.” He is doing just that, and these are the guys that I root for when they do it the right way. Look for him to explode on the scene if he gets his wish.

Potential Suitors: Pittsburgh Steelers, Denver Broncos

4) David Njoku, Cleveland Browns

David Njoku hasn’t been vocal or ever expressed a desire to leave Cleveland, but with his replacement in-house, in Harold Fannin Jr.. With the team struggling this year, it would be wise for the Browns to move him for a piece that can help in the future and focus on this rebuild. If Njoku can stay healthy for the stretch run, he will be among the most dynamic tight ends in the NFL, but that is a big if, given his extensive injury history since entering the league. He was the fifth-best tight end in both 2022 and 2023, per our PFSNi Rankings, in much better offenses, and has graded lower in the two years since, and the team is significantly wors offensively as well.

Potential Suitors: Jacksonville Jaguars, Carolina Panthers

3) Jaylen Waddle, Miami Dolphins

With just one win in their first seven games and a severe injury to fellow WR Tyreek Hill, they should be taking any calls that teams are making to them for anyone this season. As Jaylen Waddle approaches the end of his rookie deal and his extension kicks in next year, it may not be wise for them to pay a receiver like that, as they should look to accumulate young talent and draft picks, as the team looks totally out of sync right now. He had just one catch in a bad weather game last week for 15 yards.

Potential Suitors: New England Patriots, New York Giants

2) Chris Olave, New Orleans Saints

Chris Olave is a candidate for many teams to trade for, given that he is still just 25 years old and has another year left on his rookie contract. I think he is a strong fit in any offense, but he could be a reliable receiver for a young quarterback to lean on as they adjust to the league. Olave is currently eighth in the league with 39 receptions, and he has 342 yards and a touchdown. Look for several teams to inquire about his services, as the Saints have no reason not to be sellers.

Potential Suitors: Denver Broncos, New York Giants

1) De’Von Achane, Miami Dolphins

De’Von Achane is by far the most valuable asset on the trade market right now, and this is due to a combination of skill, production, and value (in terms of his contract). He had another great game, but was the only standout player as the Dolphins lost to the Cleveland Browns by a score of 31-6.

I wrote a piece about why the Chicago Bears would be an excellent fit for Achane here, but it is now being reported that their arch-rivals, the Green Bay Packers, have inquired about bringing in Achane. With these two teams as the top candidates for his services, a move of Achane could very well play a part in deciding the NFL’s best division right now, the NFC North.
