Will Chris Olave Play in Week 14? Latest Injury Update on Saints Star

Saints star Chris Olave was limited in practice ahead of the big game against the Buccaneers. Here's the latest on his status for Week 14.

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave has been rather limited in practice this week due to an injury setback. The Saints, 2-10 in the 2025 NFL season, travel to face Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla.

While the Saints’ record isn’t much to write home about, the team has been hoping to get Olave and some of his teammates back on the field.

What’s the Latest on Saints’ WR Chris Olave?

According to a report from Saints reporter Erin Summers posted on X on Friday, Olave is listed as questionable for Sunday’s road game. He’s been dealing with back spasms.

While Olave is questionable, three other Saints players – Alvin Kamara, Tali Fuaga, and Justin Reid – have all been ruled out to play against the Buccaneers.

This season, Olave has 78 catches for 781 yards and five touchdown receptions. He’s played all four of his NFL seasons with New Orleans. His career totals include 264 catches for 3,346 career yards and 15 career TD catches.

Olave was a first-round draft pick (No. 11 overall) by New Orleans in the 2022 NFL Draft after playing for the Ohio State Buckeyes and head coach Ryan Day. In four seasons with the Buckeyes, Olave totaled 176 receptions for 2,711 yards and 35 touchdown catches.

According to the PFSN NFL WR Impact metrics, Olave has an impact score of 76.1 and grades out to a C. Olave has been one receiver that Saints quarterback Tyler Shough has been trying to connect more with as the season rolls along. On the Saints’ depth chart, Kevin Austin Jr. is listed as the No. 2 wide receiver behind Olave.

On Saturday, Saints insider Nick Underhill confirmed that Olave will play in Week 14. Mason Tipton and Devaughn Vele are the other receivers on the team who will look to help Shough against the Buccaneers’ secondary.

It’s been a long season for Saints head coach Kellen Moore, who is in his first season as the team’s field general. Moore spent the 2024 NFL season as the offensive coordinator for the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.

The Saints are looking to finish this season on a winning note while their long-suffering fans look toward a better season in 2026. The same thing could be said for Olave and his injured teammates, too.

Saints’ Insights for Week 14

Team: According to the PFSN Analytics, New Orleans currently has a 17.6% chance of getting the first overall pick. A loss increases the chances to 24.8%, a win drops it to 6.7%.

QB: Tyler Shough has been sacked nine times in the last two games after being sacked three times in his first two starts.

Offense: The Saints graded at a C level in OFFi to snap a streak of four games with a D+ or lower.

Defense: New Orleans had the 5th best (82.1, B-) DEFi in Week 13. It was the third time in five weeks the Saints graded at a B-.

Fantasy: Devaughn Vele stole the show for the Saints last week, but there’s no reason to go that far down the WR depth chart. Tyler Shough completed 68.4% of his passes in Miami and continues to show enough for us when it comes to rostering Chris Olave and Juwan Johnson.
