Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell joined KFAN’s Paul Allen on Tuesday and confirmed the team remains active behind the scenes as the NFL trade deadline approaches. While his focus is on preparing for Baltimore in Week 10, O’Connell said the front office and coaching staff are staying in close communication as calls continue across the league.
Kevin O’Connell Confirms Vikings Are Monitoring Trade Deadline Activity
O’Connell made it clear that while roster decisions fall largely under general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, the coaching staff is involved in evaluating needs and potential fits.
“The Whoppers are more on the whiteboard right now with the coaching staff plays more so than me being involved directly right now with any of that stuff,” O’Connell said on Allen’s radio show. “But I know there’s a lot of calls going on. Kwesi and the staff do a great job with that and we’ll see where the day goes.”
Minnesota’s 27-24 win over Detroit on Sunday reignited playoff talk and boosted optimism inside the locker room. The Vikings offense entered Sunday 24th in PFSN’s OFFi. After three total McCarthy touchdown, including a red-zone strike to star receiver Justin Jefferson, Minnesota’s OFFi jumped to 19th.

The Vikings are 4-4 and within striking distance of the NFC North lead, which could influence how aggressively the front office approaches the deadline. O’Connell noted that consistency will determine how far the team can go.

“The true measure of teams is their ability, once they find their rhythm, to be consistent,” he said.
Reports have linked the Vikings to potential depth upgrades at cornerback, center, and quarterback, though O’Connell stressed the importance of maintaining team chemistry while improving where possible.
“Players deserve all the credit,” he said. “Now I’m putting it on them to repeat those performances.”
With just hours left before the 4 p.m. ET deadline, Minnesota appears to be keeping its options open. A smaller, strategic move to strengthen depth or add veteran leadership could still happen. The Vikings have positioned themselves to stay flexible and competitive as they aim to make a playoff push in the second half of the season.
