The Minnesota Vikings could be one of the league’s most quietly flexible teams as the NFL trade deadline approaches, holding eight confirmed 2026 draft picks and the potential for multiple compensatory selections that give general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah room to maneuver before Tuesday.
What 2026 NFL Draft Picks Do the Vikings Have?
Per Vikings.com, Minnesota currently owns its first-, second-, and third-round selections in the 2026 NFL Draft, along with additional picks in the fifth, sixth, and three in the 7th Round — the latter acquired through previous trades with Philadelphia, Indianapolis, Houston, and Carolina.
The Vikings also expect to receive compensatory picks for losing quarterbacks Sam Darnold and Daniel Jones in free agency, potentially raising their total to ten selections. The compensatory picks for Darnold and Jones should be high selections. Based on the league’s formula, the picks could become two third-round equivalents that would end up closer to fourth-rounders.
That stockpile provides Minnesota with a strong foundation for future assets and the flexibility to make targeted, cost-effective moves.
Why the Vikings Could Use Their Draft Capital Before the Deadline
At 4-4 and back in the NFC North race after a 27-24 win over the Lions, the Vikings are balancing long-term development with short-term opportunity. Second-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy continues to grow, and the defense is improving. The Vikings’ defense improved to No. 7 in PFSN’s DEFi metrics after leading the Lions for more than 60 snaps.
Minnesota found a way to control one of the NFC’s best offenses. Head coach Kevin O’Connell’s group has regained confidence after a rough stretch in October.

Should Adofo-Mensah opt to buy, the focus will likely be on reinforcing key areas rather than making a major splash. Behind Byron Murphy Jr. and Isaiah Rodgers, cornerback depth has been a concern. Aaron Jones’ health at running back remains uncertain. The offensive line is still shuffling as Ryan Kelly works his way back from injury.

Under Adofo-Mensah, Minnesota has not been afraid to use draft assets for immediate help. The front office has previously added tackle Cam Robinson and running back Jordan Mason through trades. With multiple seventh-rounders and mid-round flexibility, the Vikings could easily move a late pick for a veteran depth piece before the deadline.
Even if no deal materializes, Minnesota’s 2026 draft capital puts them in a strong position for the offseason. The Vikings are one of the few NFC teams with both playoff potential and future leverage, a combination that ensures they will remain a team to watch as the trade deadline approaches.
