NFL Draft Tracker 2021: Live analysis & insight from Tony Pauline

[sv slug=”nfl-draft-guide”]

48. San Francisco 49ers: Aaron Banks, OG, Notre Dame

Pauline’s Ranking: #82 (OG06) | Scouting Report

Pauline: If you select a quarterback with the third pick of the draft, you better protect him. The 49ers take one of the better guards in the draft in Aaron Banks. A dominant small-area blocker who can also pass protect — Banks should be a Day 1 starter.

47. Los Angeles Chargers: Asante Samuel Jr., CB, Florida State

Pauline’s Ranking: #60 (CB09) | Scouting Report

Pauline: The Chargers continue to hit it out of the park. They filled a desperate need at left tackle in Round 1 and now fill a need at corner. Were he three inches taller, Asante Samuel Jr. would have been a first-round pick. He plays like the son of a former NFLer and should quickly start at the next level.

46. Cincinnati Bengals: Jackson Carman, OT, Clemson

Pauline’s Ranking: #80 (OT12) | Scouting Report

Pauline: The Bengals finally get additional protection for Joe Burrow by selecting Jackson Carman, who protected the blind side of Trevor Lawrence at Clemson. Carman is big, physical, and versatile. He can play right tackle or guard.

45. Jacksonville Jaguars: Walker Little, OT, Stanford

Pauline’s Ranking: #65 (OT09) | Scouting Report

Pauline: An interesting but solid selection by the Jaguars. Off his sophomore season of 2018, Little looked like a top half of Round 1 guy. Injuries and opting out kept him on the sidelines the past two years, but if they get Little back to the level of his frosh/soph season, they have their starting left tackle in the future.

44. Dallas Cowboys: Kelvin Joseph, CB, Kentucky

Pauline’s Ranking: #52 (CB07) | Scouting Report

Pauline: The Cowboys get the physical cornerback they desperately need in the second round. Joseph plays tough, instinctive football and comes with a large upside.

[su_note note_color=”#690000″ text_color=”#ffffff” radius=”3″ class=”” id=””]TRADE ALERT: San Francisco 49ers trade pick 43 to Las Vegas | The Raiders have traded for No. 43 and No. 230, sending multiple picks back to the 49ers. San Francisco gets No. 48 and a fourth-round pick.[/su_note]

43. Las Vegas Raiders: Trevon Moehrig, S, TCU

Pauline’s Ranking: #23 (S01) | Scouting Report

Pauline: After a questionable first-round pick the Raiders come back and get excellent value in the second frame. Trevon Moehrig fits the team’s identity, as he’s a devastating run defender with solid ball skills and a safety who can also play special teams.

[su_note note_color=”#690000″ text_color=”#ffffff” radius=”3″ class=”” id=””]TRADE ALERT: New York Giants trade pick 42 to Miami | The Giants have acquired No. 50 and a 2022 third-round pick from Miami.[/su_note]

42. Miami Dolphins: Liam Eichenberg, OT, Notre Dame

Pauline’s Ranking: #63 (OT08) | Scouting Report

Pauline: The Dolphins get a right tackle in Liam Eichenberg, the Notre Dame senior who comes with great size and football acumen.

41. Detroit Lions: Levi Onwuzurike, DT, Washington

Pauline’s Ranking: #34 (DT01) | Scouting Report

Pauline: The Lions continue to build on the line of scrimmage, taking athletic prospects with a high upside. In Levi Onwuzurike, they also get a defensive tackle who can rush the passer and play with a non-stop motor.

40. Atlanta Falcons: Richie Grant, S, UCF

Pauline’s Ranking: #39 (S02) | Scouting Report

Pauline: While I’m surprised Trevon Moehrig is still on the board, I’m glad to see Richie Grant is not. Despite lacking the great athleticism and speed, Grant is a complete safety that shows a lot of toughness against the run and terrific ball skill in coverage.

[su_note note_color=”#690000″ text_color=”#ffffff” radius=”3″ class=”” id=””]TRADE ALERT: Carolina Panthers trade pick 39 and 151 to Chicago | The Bears have acquired No. 39 and 151, sending multiple picks back to the Panthers. Carolina will receive picks 52, 83, 204 in 2021.[/su_note]

39. Chicago Bears: Teven Jenkins, OT, Oklahoma State

Pauline’s Ranking: #19 (OT03) | Scouting Report

Pauline: The Bears have a gaping hole at right tackle, which they hope Teven Jenkins will fill. The Oklahoma State senior is a tremendous prospect with outstanding athleticism. He has first-round film but poor interviews (in which Jenkins displayed a lack of confidence) pushed him out of the first round.

[su_note note_color=”#690000″ text_color=”#ffffff” radius=”3″ class=”” id=””]TRADE ALERT: Cincinnati Bengals trade pick 38 to New England | The Patriots have acquired No. 38, sending multiple picks back to the Bengals. The Bengals receive No. 46, 122, 139.[/su_note]

38. New England Patriots: Christian Barmore, DT, Alabama

Pauline’s Ranking: #37 (DT02) | Scouting Report

Pauline: I like the value of the pick but I wonder what the Patriots will do with Barmore. Defensive line was not a big need, but Barmore adds another pass rusher up front — which is always a good thing.

37. Philadelphia Eagles: Landon Dickerson, C, Alabama

Pauline’s Ranking: #170 (C06) | Scouting Report

Pauline: Dickerson comes off the board as the Eagles draft the future replacement for Jason Kelce. This is a risky selection as, for all his great talent on the field, Dickerson is a medical nightmare.

36. Miami Dolphins: Jevon Holland, S, Oregon

Pauline’s Ranking: #62 (S03) | Scouting Report

Pauline: No surprise here — I mentioned weeks ago the Dolphins would go defensive back early in the draft. And while I said cornerback, Holland is the best cover safety in the draft and he believes he can line up at corner.

[su_note note_color=”#690000″ text_color=”#ffffff” radius=”3″ class=”” id=””]TRADE ALERT: Atlanta Falcons trade pick 35 and 219 to Denver | The Denver Broncos have acquired No. 35 and No. 219. The Falcons will receive No. 40 and No. 114 in 2021.[/su_note]

35. Denver Broncos: Javonte Williams, RB, North Carolina

Pauline’s Ranking: #45 (RB03) | Scouting Report

Pauline: The Broncos move up to get the third best back in the draft. Williams is a hammer on the inside with short-area quickness and the ability to make defenders miss. I like the player, yet I question the pick considering what Denver already has on the depth chart.

34. New York Jets: Elijah Moore, WR, Mississippi

Pauline’s Ranking: #46 (WR08) | Scouting Report

Pauline: Earlier last week, I mentioned the Jets would address receiver and cornerback spots on Day 2 and they got a homerun hitter in Elijah Moore. He’ll be a weapon for Zach Wilson and someone that can line up in the slot as well as help out returning punts.

33. Jacksonville Jaguars: Tyson Campbell, CB, Georgia

Pauline’s Ranking: #43 (CB05) | Scouting Report

Pauline: I knew it would be a defensive back, and as posted at 6:45, that defensive back was Tyson Campbell, the long, athletic corner with a huge upside.
