Matthew Stafford is one of the most experienced active quarterbacks in the league. The 37-year-old signal-caller with the Los Angeles Rams has been in the NFL since 2009 and has amassed an impressive 62,366 passing yards and 404 total touchdowns.
How Much Does QB Matthew Stafford Make?
Stafford’s contract was recently negotiated in May 2025. According to NFL.com, the Rams finalized a contract for Stafford that pays the Super Bowl-winning quarterback $44 million this year. Spotrac provides further details that Stafford most recently signed a two-year, $84 million contract, which also included a $24 million signing bonus.
The league also disclosed that Stafford was allowed to see what kind of deal could be worked out in an offseason trade (with the New York Giants and Las Vegas Raiders), before deciding to remain with the Rams. His career earnings are listed as just over $400 million.
In his 17th season in the league, the Detroit Lions drafted Stafford initially as the No. 1 overall pick in 2009. His selection came after his college years at Georgia; in Stafford’s three seasons as a Bulldog, Georgia went 30-9, including bowl game victories in the 2006 Chick-fil-A Bowl, 2008 Sugar Bowl, and the 2009 Capital One Bowl.
He was traded to the Rams in March 2021, in a deal that sent fellow signal-caller Jared Goff to Detroit. Stafford then promptly won his first Super Bowl in 2022.
Forbes lists Stafford as the No. 9 highest-paid NFL player and among the top 15 of the world’s highest-paid athletes. It also states that he has earned around $3 million in endorsements.
The Rams currently have the second-ranked offense of the season, according to PFSN’s NFL Offense Impact metric. Similarly, in PFSN’s NFL QB Impact metric, Stafford is currently the seventh-ranked quarterback in the league, with an impact score of 81.8.
While Stafford may be a league veteran, that also comes with its drawbacks in terms of wear and tear. The 6’3″, 214-pound player has been sacked over 500 times (516) and has thrown 190 interceptions.
