Jaxon Smith-Njigba Makes NFL History in Week 12 for the Seahawks

Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba made NFL history in Week 12, cementing his status as one of the league’s best players.

The NFL is in a golden age for wide receivers. The league is loaded with superstars at the position with Justin Jefferson, Ja’Marr Chase, Amon-Ra St. Brown, CeeDee Lamb, and more, all dominating defenses week after week.

Yet third-year Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba has arguably been better than all of them all this season, and he cemented his status as one of the league’s best by making history in Seattle’s Week 12 matchup against the Tennessee Titans.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba Sets NFL Record For Seahawks in Week 12

Smith-Njigba enjoyed a breakout year in 2024 for the Seahawks, racking up over 1,100 yards and six touchdown catches. While many expected him to perform well again in 2025, few could have predicted the season he’s having.

Heading into Seattle’s Week 12 matchup with the Titans, Smith-Njigba already had 72 catches for 1,146 yards and five touchdowns, ranking first among all NFL wide receivers this season according to PFSN’s WRi metric.

In the Titans game, he’s continued that dominance, hauling in eight catches for 167 yards and two touchdowns with three minutes remaining in the third quarter.

With over 75 yards against Tennessee, Smith-Njigba has officially etched his name in the NFL record books. He is now the first wide receiver in league history to record more than 75 yards in each of his team’s first 11 games of a season.

While that might not seem like an earth-shattering stat, it highlights just how consistent Smith-Njigba has been in 2025.

All NFL wide receivers, no matter how talented, have off days. Poor play calling, mistakes by the quarterback, or other factors can keep even the best players from producing at times. However, Smith-Njigba has broken that mold, as he has been dominant every time he has stepped onto the field this season.

Not only did Smith-Njigba make NFL history with his performance against the Titans on Sunday, but he also set a new Seahawks record. Just 11 games into the 2025 season, he surpassed DK Metcalf’s previous single-season receiving yard mark of 1,303 yards.

Smith-Njigba’s impact on Seattle can’t be overstated. With his consistent dominance on Sundays, he has helped the Seahawks’ offense rank sixth in the league this season according to PFSN’s OFFi metric, while helping quarterback Sam Darnold rank fifth among NFL quarterbacks in PFSN’s QBi metric.

While the league has no shortage of elite wideouts, it’s hard to find anyone performing at a higher level than Smith-Njigba this season, and his exceptional year is now cemented in the record books.
