The 2024 NFL season is underway, and the Philadelphia Eagles are trying to return to the Super Bowl and put last season’s second-half collapse behind them. Who is the Eagles’ current head coach, and how long has he held that position?
Nick Sirianni’s Coaching Career
Sirianni is the son of a coach, as his father was the head coach of Southwestern Central High School in West Ellicott, New York.
Prior to his own coaching career, Sirianni was a wide receiver who played at Mount Union, a Division III school in Alliance, Ohio. Sirianni was a starter for three years, helping Mount Union win national championships in 2000, 2001, and 2002. After college, he played for the Canton Legends of the American Indoor Football League.
Once his playing days ended, he made the transition to coaching. His first coaching gig was as a defensive backs coach at Mount Union from 2004 through 2005. Sirianni also served as IUP's wide receivers coach from 2006 through 2008.
Then, the NFL came calling.
In 2009, he was hired by the Kansas City Chiefs as an offensive quality control coach, and he would remain with the organization for four seasons. He was eventually promoted to assistant quarterbacks coach and wide receivers coach. Sirianni left to join the San Diego Chargers, whom he coached for five years in a variety of roles including offensive quality control coach, quarterbacks coach, and wide receivers coach.
In 2018, the Indianapolis Colts gave Sirianni his first job as an offensive coordinator. He helped lead the Colts to the playoffs twice in his three years running the offense.
Then, on Jan. 24, 2021, the Eagles hired Sirianni as their head coach, replacing Doug Pederson.
Sirianni’s tenure in Philadelphia has had plenty of ups (including a Super Bowl appearance and Maxwell Club NFL Coach of the Year award in 2022) and downs (including the team’s brutal second-half collapse and Wild Card loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2023).
What Is Nick Sirianni’s Record As A Coach?
Sirianni is in his fourth season as an NFL head coach, and the Eagles are 37-19 in the regular season over that span, giving him a winning percentage of .661. In the playoffs, he is 2-3. His best season came in 2022, when he led the Eagles to a 14-3 record and advanced to the Super Bowl.
Has Nick Sirianni Ever Won the Super Bowl?
Sirianni has never won a Super Bowl -- as a head coach or as an assistant. While he did lead the Eagles to Super Bowl LVII on Feb. 12, 2023, Philadelphia ultimately lost to the Kansas City Chiefs, 38-35.
How Old Is Nick Sirianni?
Sirianni was born on June 15, 1981, in Jamestown, New York, meaning he is 43 years old. He is currently the 12th-youngest head coach in the NFL.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is the oldest active coach at 66 years old, while the youngest is Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald at 37 years old.
What Is Nick Sirianni’s Salary and Net Worth?
In 2021, Sirianni signed a five-year, $35 million contract with the Eagles, meaning he makes $7 million annually.
For comparison, the highest-paid head coaches in the NFL are Reid ($18 million), Los Angeles Chargers HC Jim Harbaugh ($16 million), Los Angeles Rams HC Sean McVay ($14 million), and Pittsburgh Steelers HC Mike Tomlin ($12.5 million).
Sirianni’s net worth is estimated to be around $10 million as of 2024. While this is a great net worth by most standards, it puts him in the middle of the pack among NFL head coaches. He hasn’t been able to accumulate the kind of fortune that some of his peers have -- like, say, Bill Belichick ($70 million), Reid ($50 million), or Tomlin ($30 million).
Who Is Nick Sirianni’s Wife?
Sirianni's wife is Brett Ashley Cantwell, who grew up in Springfield, Missouri, where she also went to college and became a schoolteacher. Before meeting Sirianni, Missouri was the only place she had ever known. She was raised by her parents, Brad and Debbie Cantwell, and has two sisters, Justine and Courtney.
The couple met when they were living in the same apartment complex in Kansas City. Cantwell told Colts.com that Sirianni mentioned several times that he worked for the Chiefs, but she didn’t care.
"When you first met me, you used the Chiefs card," she likes to say to her husband.
"Hey, it worked!" Sirianni responded. "Whatever I needed to do to get my wife."
"I didn't remember him, but he remembered me," Cantwell replied, adding that they ran into each other a few times. "He was like, 'I work with the Chiefs.' I didn't care at all."
Her sister Courtney loved Nick and convinced Brett to go out on a date with him. The couple became serious pretty quickly and got engaged a year later. The couple married at the Schweitzer United Methodist Church, Missouri, in June 2013.
Brett and Nick have three children together: Jacob, Taylor, and Miles. Brett ended her teaching career to become a full-time mother.
