The 2024 NFL season is underway, and the New York Giants are trying to return to the playoffs for the first time since 2022. Who is the Giants’ current head coach, and how long has he held that position?

Brian Daboll Coaching Career

Daboll played football at Saint Francis High School in Athol Springs, New York, and then started at safety for the University of Rochester. He transitioned to coaching after college, getting his first coaching opportunities at William & Mary and Michigan State.

In 2000, Daboll was hired by the New England Patriots. He would stay with the Patriots from 2000 to 2006 (and then return from 2013 through 2016), moving from a defensive assistant to wide receivers coach to tight ends coach. He won five Super Bowls as a member of the Patriots' coaching staff and gained valuable experience under Bill Belichick.

After a stint with the New York Jets as their quarterbacks coach, Daboll became an offensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns, Miami Dolphins, Kansas City Chiefs, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Buffalo Bills.

With the Bills from 2018 through 2021, he played a crucial role in developing quarterback Josh Allen and helping him emerge as a superstar. Daboll was named the AP NFL Assistant Coach of the Year in 2020 for his work with Allen and the Bills.

On Jan. 28, 2022, the Giants hired Daboll to become their next head coach, replacing Joe Judge. In 2022, in his first season as a head coach, Daboll won the AP NFL Coach of the Year award after leading the Giants to a 9-7 record and a Wild Card victory over the Minnesota Vikings.

What Is Brian Daboll’s Record As A Coach?

Since taking over as the Giants' head coach in 2022, Daboll's regular-season record is 17-22-1, giving him a .438 winning percentage. In the playoffs, Daboll is 1-1 (.500).

His first season in New York was his best, as the team went 9-7, made the playoffs, and defeated the Vikings in the Wild Card round. In the year and a half since, his Giants are 8-15.

Has Brian Daboll Ever Won the Super Bowl?

Yes, Daboll has won five Super Bowls throughout his coaching career, but all of his rings came as an assistant coach. Throughout his tenure with the Patriots, he helped the team hoist the Lombardi Trophy in 2001, 2003, 2004, 2014, and 2016. Daboll also helped Alabama win a national championship in 2017 as the team’s OC. He’s one of the most successful assistant coaches in NFL history.

How Old Is Brian Daboll?

Daboll was born on April 14, 1975, in Ontario, Canada, making him 49 years old. This puts him right in the middle of the pack among his peers, as he's currently the 13th-oldest head coach in the NFL.

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is the oldest active coach at 66 years old, while the youngest is Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald at 37 years old.

What Is Brian Daboll’s Salary and Net Worth?

On Jan. 28, 2022, the Giants hired Daboll, inking him to a multi-year deal that reportedly pays him $5 million annually. This is tied for the fourth-lowest salary among all NFL head coache. The only head coaches who earned less than Daboll last season were Cleveland Browns HC Kevin Stefanski ($3.5 million), Dallas Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy ($4 million), and Cincinnati Bengals HC Zac Taylor ($4.5 million).

For comparison, the highest-paid head coaches in the NFL are Reid ($18 million), Los Angeles Chargers HC Jim Harbaugh ($16 million), Los Angeles Rams HC Sean McVay ($14 million), and Pittsburgh Steelers HC Mike Tomlin ($12.5 million).

Daboll’s net worth is estimated to be $9 million. While this is a great net worth by most standards, it puts him in the middle of the pack among NFL head coaches. With only two seasons as a head coach under his belt, he hasn’t been able to accumulate the kind of fortune that some of his peers have -- like, say, Belichick ($70 million), Reid ($50 million), or Tomlin ($30 million).

Who Is Brian Daboll’s Wife?

Daboll is married to Beth Inez Plauman, who was born in Lancaster, New York. Previously, Beth worked as a nurse and was married to high school baseball coach Mark Vogel. The couple had two sons together, Aiden and Mark.

Both Brian and Beth had previous marriages prior to tying the knot. Like Beth, Brian has two children from his first marriage, Christian and Haven.

In 2006, the couple randomly met at a bar in Buffalo. They both had come with their respective friends to listen to a local band play, and Daboll was celebrating his birthday.

What drew Beth to Brian?

“I do have a thing for bald guys, so the bald head got me first," Beth said.

The couple decided to get married in 2009. Brian and Beth would have two more children together: Avery and Luke. The Dabolls live in New York and juggle their Brady Bunch of six kids.
