The Jacksonville Jaguars have been one of the biggest surprises in the NFL this season. The team went 4-13 last season and, after winning in Week 16, is now sitting at 10-4 and is in first place in the AFC South.
This is the first season with head coach Liam Coen at the helm, and it’s hard not to be impressed with his debut. Now, many around the NFL world are already penciling Coen in for a major award.
Liam Coen Dubbed ‘Coach of the Year’ After Impressive Week 16 Victory
In Week 16, the Jaguars traveled to Denver to take on the AFC-leading Broncos. The Broncos were one of two teams with 12 wins entering Week 16 and looked like one of the most complete squads in the league.
However, Coen’s squad was not fazed by the setting or circumstances. The Jaguars took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter and then extended their advantage to 17-10 at halftime. The Jaguars then outscored the Broncos, 17-10, again in the second half to secure a decisive 34-20 victory.
The win moved the Jaguars to 11-4, and PFSN’s Football Playoff Meter now gives the team a 95.3% chance to make the playoffs and a 61.0% chance to win the division.
As a result, fans and media members alike are giving the first-year head coach his flowers.
One fan said Coen “should be in the conversation” for the Coach of the Year Award, while another fan concurred with that sentiment.

Meanwhile. PFSN’s own Brandon Austin thinks Coen has already changed the culture in Jacksonville. This is the first time the Jaguars have won 10 or more games since 2017, and assuming they make the playoffs, it’ll be just the fifth time since 2000.

The Jaguars have games against the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans to wrap up the regular season.
Liam Coen Thriving in First NFL Head Coaching Job
This is the first time Coen has ever been an NFL head coach, but you wouldn’t know that by watching his team.
The Jaguars have the 16th-ranked offense in PFSN’s Offense Impact ranking and the ninth-ranked defense in PFSN’s Defense Impact ranking. The team is currently riding a six-game winning streak and has two very winnable games to end the regular season.
Before coming to Jacksonville, Coen spent time as the offensive coordinator for the Kentucky Wildcats, Los Angeles Rams, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, this might be the most impressive coaching job of Coen’s career so far.
