NFL Trade Rumors: Adam Schefter Reveals Whether Browns Are Open to Moving Myles Garrett

Adam Schefter sets the record straight on whether the Cleveland Browns are willing to trade star pass rusher Myles Garrett.

With the NFL trade deadline fast approaching, phones are ringing off the hook for teams not expecting to contend for a playoff spot come late December. One of those teams is the Cleveland Browns, who let a youth movement guide a struggling offense.

On the defensive side, however, Myles Garrett is having another elite season, which prompted general manager Andrew Berry to respond emphatically following trade calls for his star edge rusher.

Why Won’t the Cleveland Browns Trade Myles Garrett?

As the Browns stumble out of the gate with a 2-6 record, trade rumors swirl around Garrett, with contending teams searching for defensive line help to aid a playoff push. However, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Browns are not considering a trade for their superstar pass rusher.

“For those wondering if the Browns would consider trading Myles Garrett by Tuesday’s deadline, the answer is, in the words of one source, ‘No chance,'” Schefter said on X, confirming that teams attempting to acquire the six-time All-Pro would be out of luck.

This stance is hardly surprising, especially since Garrett recently signed a four-year, $160 million contract extension with the Browns in the offseason. That deal gives Cleveland all the more reason not to move its defensive cornerstone. Schefter also added in the post that the unnamed source claimed, “People have a better chance of winning the lottery,” emphasizing just how unlikely a trade is before the deadline.

Unsurprisingly, teams are calling to check on Garrett’s availability amid the Browns’ struggles and the edge rusher’s fantastic play. These rumors may be picking up steam due to Garrett’s incredible five-sack performance in the Browns’ Week 8 loss to the Patriots.

Adding to the reports, Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot chimed in on the trade rumors, doubling down on Schefter’s initial report and calming the nerves of Browns fans everywhere.

“Zero chance the Browns would trade Myles Garrett, I’m told. Hasn’t even been discussed,” Cabot posted to X, confirming that Berry and the Browns have no desire to move Garrett.

How Good Has Garrett Been This Season?

Despite the team’s poor record, Garrett and the defense have been a bright light. After eight weeks and two wins, PFSN rates the Browns’ defense a B- with an 82.5 Defense Impact score, good for seventh-best across the NFL. It is no secret that the defense is the strength of this Browns team, largely thanks to Garrett’s excellence on the defensive line.

In another stellar campaign, Garrett recorded a stunning 10 sacks over eight games, which led the league. Add a league-leading 15 tackles for loss and 15 QB hits, and you have another season where Garrett could contend for Defensive Player of the Year, an award he previously won in 2023.

It is unlikely that the Browns will find a quick solution to fix their offense and turn this season around. But if they will right the ship as the season approaches its second half, it will happen with Garrett on the field, sporting that Cleveland brown and orange. For now, any front office hoping to pry one of the league’s best pass rushers out of Cleveland is getting the same message loud and clear: Garrett isn’t going anywhere.
