Hawks Shockingly Predicted to Trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo To Make Championship Push

Giannis Antetokounmpo had an enjoyable summer, with talks surrounding his future with the Milwaukee Bucks while he was in Europe representing his country in the FIBA EuroBasketball Championship.

The saga around Antetokounmpo’s future will continue as the season progresses, as some teams in the league are monitoring his situation in Milwaukee. While Giannis has been blunt about his expectations from the team, only time will tell what will happen between the 6’11” powerhouse and the only NBA team he has been with since moving to America.

Have the Atlanta Hawks Been Predicted to Land Giannis Antetokounmpo in a Possible Trade Deal?

Bucks GM Jon Horst traveled to Athens, Greece, in late July to discuss the team’s superstar, who led them to an NBA championship for the first time in 50 years and also won the Finals MVP that year.

In a recent Bleacher Report article, the senior NBA writer proposed a wild claim involving the Bucks’ superstar Giannis and a resurgent Atlanta Hawks. The claim pertained to a specific condition: whether the trade deadline would be extended until before the start of the new campaign in October.

The writer proposed the following trade: “Jalen Johnson, Onyeka Okongwu, Zaccharie Risacher, Asa Newell, a 2029 first-round pick, and a 2031 first-round pick for Giannis Antetokounmpo.”

Furthermore, the writer mentioned, “In the real world, we’re going to hear about potential trades and rumored suitors for the next several months. In this fake one, with the October trade deadline, the Atlanta Hawks can put together one of the league’s most compelling Giannis trade packages.”

He added, “This is a lot to give up, but a core with Trae Young, Giannis, Dyson Daniels, and Kristaps Porziņģis would give Atlanta as good a chance as anyone to win the East.”

In the real world, staking a claim of what Giannis has accomplished in the past three seasons, this would be a remarkable trade for the Hawks, as then they will have a power-packed lineup that can contend for silverware from the Eastern Conference. In reality, only one team has thus far even come close to discussing a trade for Giannis, which, as per senior NBA Insider Shams Charania, is the New York Knicks.

While the Knicks approached the Bucks in August to discuss Antetokounmpo, nothing came to fruition. Sources close to Milwaukee revealed that New York never really made any strong claims or offered to discuss the possibility of a trade deal. One source indicated this was an exclusive negotiating window between the two teams.

Some analysts have predicted that if Giannis were to explore a trade option, the Knicks could be a viable choice for the Greek superstar. The questions surrounding Giannis’ trade saga will linger throughout the entirety of the 2025-26 campaign, and whatever happens between Antetokounmpo and the Bucks remains to be seen.
