Kyler Murray Landing Spots: Top 3 Destinations for the Cardinals QB

Kyler Murray is a top free agent in 2026. Here are three ideal landing spots for the dynamic dual-threat quarterback after the Cardinals released him.

With the 2026 NFL free agency starting today, quarterback movement is once again expected to dominate headlines. One of the biggest potential names on the free agent market? Kyler Murray. Quarterback movement defines modern NFL offseasons, and since the Cardinals decided to start fresh, Murray instantly became one of the most intriguing trade chips available.

After injuries derailed much of his 2025 campaign and a new coaching staff took over in Arizona, it felt increasingly likely the franchise would consider a reset. Murray is still just 28 and remains one of the most dynamic dual-threat quarterbacks in football.

Minnesota Vikings

Minnesota has quietly become a destination for quarterbacks looking to revive their careers. Just look at the recent turnarounds of Daniel Jones and Super Bowl winner Sam Darnold.

A big reason for that success is head coach Kevin O’Connell and his quarterback-friendly offensive system. O’Connell’s scheme consistently manufactures open throws, simplifies reads, and emphasizes timing, all elements that could maximize Murray’s speed-to-arm talent combination.

The Vikings finished 9-8 last season, largely because the defense under Brian Flores carried the load. Offensively, inconsistency at quarterback hurt them, with J.J. McCarthy battling injuries and uneven play. The Vikings offense had a PFSN NFL Offensive Impact grade of 66, which was 28th in the NFL a year ago. Not up to O’Connell’s standards by any means.

Insert Murray’s playmaking ability into that system, and Minnesota instantly raises its offensive ceiling. His mobility would add another layer to O’Connell’s design-heavy passing attack, and with the right structure around him, the Vikings could quickly re-enter the NFC playoff picture in 2026.

Miami Dolphins

At first glance, this may seem unconventional, but the fit makes sense.

Geographically, Miami’s warm-weather environment benefits a smaller, mobile quarterback like Murray. Cold-weather arm strength concerns disappear, and the Dolphins’ speed-based roster aligns well with his off-script ability.

The bigger question centered around Tua Tagovailoa. However, since the Dolphins have moved on from Tagovailoa despite significant cap implications, Murray becomes an option for them.

Murray’s PFSN NFL QB Impact Grade was 75.3 when he played in 2025, which was much better than Tua’s 72.2. Add in that the Dolphins’ QB was second in the league with 15 interceptions, and it’s clear a change is needed.

Still, if a new coaching staff is seeking a different skill set under center, Murray’s upside is tempting.

When healthy, he remains one of the league’s most explosive quarterbacks. If Miami believes its current roster is ready to compete now and that the projected 2026 quarterback draft class is weaker, signing Murray could be a calculated swing at immediate contention.

Atlanta Falcons

This may feel like a Wild Card, but dig deeper, and it makes real sense.

Atlanta has moved on from Kirk Cousins, and while Michael Penix Jr. has shown flashes, he has battled inconsistency and injury concerns early in his career.

Enter new head coach Kevin Stefanski, an offensive-minded play caller who has historically thrived when tailoring his scheme to quarterback strengths. Stefanski has worked well with structured passers, but Murray would give him something different: Rare off-platform creation ability combined with deep-ball explosiveness.

Playing in a dome environment would accentuate Murray’s strengths. Pair him with emerging star receiver Drake London and dynamic running back Bijan Robinson, and Atlanta’s offense suddenly looks dangerous. The Falcons have skill talent in place; they just need high-level quarterback consistency to unlock it.

Important Dates in 2026 NFL Free Agency

The legal tampering period runs for 52 hours, opening Monday, March 9, at noon ET and closing at 3:59 p.m. ET on Wednesday, March 11, just minutes before free agency officially begins.

During that window, teams can negotiate with the certified agents of players set to become unrestricted free agents. Verbal agreements can be reached and reported, but nothing is official yet.

For the first time, teams can recruit up to five players and speak with each for up to 1 hour via video or phone, rather than routing all contact through agents. The player’s agent must be present on every call. If a team wants to meet a player in person or have him visit a facility, that still must wait until free agency is officially underway.

Free agency officially opens at 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday, March 11, when the NFL’s new league year begins. That’s when contracts become official, not when they’re reported. The trading period also opens at that moment, allowing previously agreed-upon deals to be completed.

All teams must be cap-compliant by the 4 p.m. Wednesday deadline. The 2026 salary cap is set at $301.2 million, a $22 million increase from 2025.

Most of the market’s top players will have agreed to terms well before Wednesday afternoon. The tampering window exists to give that process structure. What’s new this year is that players themselves, not just their agents, can now hear directly from the teams pursuing them.
