Kyler Murray Injury Update

The Cardinals will be without their starting quarterback on Sunday afternoon. Murray will miss the game with a foot injury, forcing the team to turn to veteran backup Jacoby Brissett in Indianapolis.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and Adam Schefter reported Saturday evening that Murray will miss Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts due to a foot injury. Murray suffered a mid-foot sprain during Arizona’s 22-21 Week 5 loss to Tennessee when he dove on a botched snap in the third quarter.

Murray missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday before returning for limited work on Friday. The Cardinals officially listed him as questionable on the final injury report.

However, the team elevated third-string quarterback Kedon Slovis from the practice squad Saturday, signaling Murray’s unavailability hours before Schefter confirmed the news. The timing of the injury couldn’t be worse for Arizona. The Cardinals enter Sunday’s 1 p.m. ET kickoff at Lucas Oil Stadium on a three-game losing streak.

All three losses were decided by a combined five points, each on last-second field goals. The Week 5 collapse against the Titans stung particularly hard, as Arizona blew a 21-3 lead and surrendered a 15-point fourth-quarter advantage.

Brissett takes over in a tough spot. He last started for New England against Miami on October 6, 2024, completing 18 of 34 passes for 160 yards.

The veteran has a 19-34 career record as a starter across stops with five franchises. He’ll face a Colts defense that ranks 16th nationally in PFSN’s Defensive Impact Metric, with a 74.0 impact score and a C grade.

Arizona’s injury problems extend beyond the quarterback. Running back James Conner is out for the season with an ankle injury. Backup Trey Benson sits on injured reserve. Michael Carter will handle the bulk of carries Sunday.

How Has Kyler Murray Performed This Season?

Murray’s 2025 season shows why Arizona needs him healthy. Through five games, he’s completed 68.3% of his passes for 962 yards with six touchdowns and three interceptions. He’s added 173 rushing yards on 29 carries with one touchdown.

PFSN’s Quarterback Impact metric has given Murray a 74.8 QB Impact score with a C grade, ranking him 23rd among qualifying quarterbacks this season. His best performance came in Week 1 against New Orleans with a 108.8 passer rating, 163 passing yards, and two touchdowns through the air.

What’s Next for the Cardinals Without Murray?

The Cardinals’ offense has struggled overall. PFSN’s Offensive Impact metric grades Arizona’s attack at D+ with a 68.1 impact score, ranking 27th in the league. The defense carries more weight with a C grade and 76.8 score and is ranked 13th based on PFSN’s Defensive Impact metric.

Arizona sits 2-3 and faces the 4-1 Colts without its franchise quarterback and top two running backs. The Cardinals’ bye week arrives in Week 8, potentially giving Murray nearly three full weeks to heal before a Week 9 return against the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football.

Foot injuries can worsen with increased activity, making extended rest essential for Murray’s recovery.

Brissett steps into a difficult situation against the Colts’ defense. Arizona’s offense loses its two biggest weapons without Murray’s dual-threat ability and Conner’s ground game. The veteran backup must limit mistakes and lean on the defense to keep the game close.
