The Washington Commanders’ final joint practice of the preseason was supposed to provide one of the clearest looks at its starting lineup. Instead, one Commanders reporter left Baltimore sounding an alarm about the offense.
Commanders Reporter’s Practice Update Sparks NFL Reaction
The Athletic’s Nicki Jhabvala described Wednesday’s work against the Ravens in blunt terms, writing in a practice post, “This is the worst I’ve ever seen the Commanders’ offense in years. Inoperable offensive line.”
The reaction spread quickly, with some observers turning their concern toward head coach Dan Quinn.
Washington itself had framed the Ravens’ joint practice as an important measuring stick, with the starters expected to receive the bulk of the meaningful work before Friday’s preseason finale.

That made Jhabvala’s assessment difficult for Commanders’ followers to brush aside. Mike Giardi responded with perhaps the strongest conclusion of the group: “Dan Quinn’s seat has to be hot.”

Bleeding Burgundy & Gold pointed out that: “Keep in mind this was supposed to be the “dress rehearsal” practice for the season …. With the scab unit OL, maybe I wasn’t being overdramatic after all.”
Another Commanders account, Brandon, focused on what the protection could mean for Jayden Daniels.
“Year 3 under a franchise QB & the O-line is in complete disarray,” he wrote. “Disappointing to hear this. Jayden & the offense deserves better.”

Ryan Paganetti added, “These practice reports carry weight to me. For those who have battled me in recent weeks saying practice doesn’t matter. I’ve been part of teams where the lines look amazing and we ended up in the Super Bowl, and seasons where there was at least one major line issue and team ended up really struggling all year.”
Concerns about the Commanders’ offensive line were known throughout the league, and the recent report only magnified the problems.

The Commanders lost Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil to a torn triceps earlier in camp, forcing Brandon Coleman back to left tackle. Washington has also spent August sorting through its options at center.
Those issues surfaced again in Daniels’ brief preseason appearance against Detroit. A recent report noted that pressure up the middle helped derail Washington’s opening three-and-out, with Jhabvala saying the series “exposed plenty” of what the offense was missing.
Daniels is coming off an injury-marred 2025 season in which he played seven games and recorded a 72.3 PFN QB Impact score, ranking 27th among eligible quarterbacks. Keeping him clean is an obvious priority as Washington tries to rebound.
Quinn’s job status is ultimately a matter for ownership, and one ugly August practice does not establish that his seat is actually hot. The reaction does show how little patience surrounds a team entering Year 3 with a franchise quarterback and unresolved questions directly in front of him.
Washington still has time to settle those questions, but the recent report made them harder to ignore.
