Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin Jr. has been available for Thursday night’s game against the Atlanta Falcons at Raymond James Stadium, but has not made much of an impact in the first half.
With the Falcons holding a 14-13 lead early in the third quarter, Tampa Bay quarterback Baker Mayfield has been targeting his wide receivers when Tampa Bay has the ball. Unfortunately, Godwin hasn’t been involved much.
What’s Happening With Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin?
Tampa Bay got on the scoreboard after Mayfield completed a pass downfield to Jalen McMillan that got the Buccaneers down to the 1-yard line. Sean Tucker, with big Vita Vea checking in to lead the charge, plowed in for the touchdown.
Godwin just has one catch for four yards, and he’s only been targeted twice.

Going into Thursday night’s game, Tampa Bay has a pretty healthy receiving corps with McMillan, Mike Evans, Emeka Egbuka, and Bucky Irving all playing. We’ll have to wait and see if Godwin gets more targets as the game rolls along.
According to the PFSN NFL WR Impact metrics, Godwin has an impact score of 67.5 and grades out to a D+. Compare those numbers to rookie wide receiver Egbuka, who has an impact score of 74.7 and grades out to a C.

For the season entering Thursday night’s game against the Falcons, Godwin had 16 catches for 194 yards and no touchdowns, while averaging 12.1 yards per reception.
Godwin was a third-round draft choice out of Penn State by the Buccaneers in the 2017 NFL Draft. He’s only appeared in five games for Tampa Bay so far this season. Career-wise, Godwin has played his entire NFL career with the Buccaneers.
He has 595 career receptions for 7,460 yards and 39 touchdowns. Godwin had a career-high nine touchdown catches in the 2019 season for Tampa Bay.
Against Atlanta, Mayfield had a lot of healthy wide receivers on the field. Besides Godwin, the Buccaneers were pretty loaded for the quarterback to take his pick of the group. Securing a win on Thursday night is crucial for the Buccaneers.
Right now, Tampa Bay is 7-6 on the season and tied with the Carolina Panthers for first place in the NFC South Division. With the win, Tampa Bay would take over the first-place spot and improve its chances of being a part of NFL postseason play.
