Tyreek Hill Released as Dolphins Begin Major Roster Overhaul

According to Adam Schefter, the Dolphins are releasing Tyreek Hill, making him an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his NFL career. Hill, who turns 32 on March 1, is recovering from a dislocated knee and torn ACL suffered in Week 4 against the New York Jets.

Schefter reported the release will save Miami $22.8 million against the salary cap.

Hill appeared in four games during the 2025 season before the injury. He totaled 21 receptions for 265 yards and 1 touchdown. Per PFSN’s Offense Impact Metric, Miami ranked No. 19 overall with a 73 impact score. Hill’s top graded outing came against the New England Patriots, when he recorded 6 receptions for 109 yards.

An eight-time Pro Bowler, Hill arrived in Miami as the centerpiece in former head coach Mike McDaniel’s offense, but Miami did not advance beyond the Wild Card round during that stretch. The Dolphins finished 7–10 in 2025 as quarterback Tua Tagovailoa struggled and was benched with three games remaining. McDaniel was dismissed following the season.

Hill’s Dominant Dolphins Run Ends Ahead of Free Agency

Hill arrived in Miami via trade from the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2022 offseason following the hiring of McDaniel as the new head coach, and immediately became the focal point of the Dolphins’ offense.

Over four seasons in Miami, Hill totaled 340 receptions for 4,733 yards and 27 touchdowns. His most productive year came in 2023, when he led the NFL with 1,799 receiving yards and earned All-Pro recognition. That season marked the statistical peak of McDaniel’s offense.

Hill’s production declined in 2024, when he finished with 959 receiving yards, his first fully healthy season under 1,000 yards since his rookie year in 2016.

Across 10 NFL seasons split between Kansas City and Miami, Hill has recorded 819 receptions for 11,363 yards and 83 touchdowns. He is an eight-time Pro Bowler, a five-time All-Pro, and he won a Super Bowl with Kansas City following the 2019 season.
