Dolphins Projected To Draft Omar Cooper Jr. After Jaylen Waddle’s Blockbuster Trade

Miami Dolphins are projected to draft Omar Cooper Jr. to replace Jaylen Waddle and provide Malik Willis with a top target.

The Miami Dolphins have officially hit the reset button this offseason. Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill, and, most recently, Jaylen Waddle have all been let go of.

Now, the focus shifts to evaluating the roster under first-year starter Malik Willis. As the NFL Draft approaches, Miami is projected to select wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. in an effort to fill the void left by Waddle and the rest of the staff.

Dolphins Predicted to Draft National Championship Winning WR

This past weekend, PFSN Analyst T.J. Randall published an article outlining his 7-Round 2026 NFL Mock Draft. He went into great detail on each of the top 100 picks, seven of which belong to the Dolphins.

Notably, using the 30th overall selection, Randall projected that the Dolphins will draft Cooper, the Indiana wide receiver.

He wrote: “Does Omar Cooper Jr. fall this far? Probably not, but dealing in absolutes about the draft has historically been a bad practice. Miami is now on the clock at pick 30 after trading Jaylen Waddle to the Denver Broncos in exchange for their first-rounder, among other pick exchanges that we’ll get to later.”

“We won’t belabor the point: Miami needs (needs) a dynamic pass catcher to assist new quarterback Malik Willis.”

Omar Cooper Jr. Fits Perfectly in Dolphins WR Unit

Miami’s current wide receiver corps is headlined by Malik Washington, Tutu Atwell, and Jalen Tolbert. To put it bluntly, the Dolphins are desperate for wide receiver talent, and that’s where Cooper comes in.

Across 16 contests with the Hoosiers in 2025, Cooper hauled in 69 receptions for 937 receiving yards and 14 total touchdowns. According to PFSN’s CFB metrics, Cooper posted an 83.0 WR Impact Score, placing him 10th among all receivers this past season.

As NFL Draft Analyst Daniel Jeremiah describes him, Cooper is a “tough pass catcher who can play inside and outside.” The potential future-first-round pick would immediately slot in as the Dolphins’ top receiving option and most certainly offer Willis and the offensive coaching staff someone to rely on.

It is also worth noting that Randall projects the Dolphins to select a second-rookie WR, Tennessee’s Chris Brazzell II. He explained, “If Miami wants Willis to succeed, he needs more help.”

Between Willis, Cooper, Brazzell, and an entirely new coaching staff, the Dolphins are expected to build from the ground up. This potential trio would be a strong starting point for a long-term rebuild, making Miami’s decisions worth monitoring as the NFL Draft approaches.
