Devin Singletary Fantasy Waiver Wire: Should I Pick Up the Houston RB This Week?

Should fantasy football managers take a look at Houston Texans running back Devin Singletary on the waiver wire in Week 8?

Week 7 is in the books, and we are now nearly at the halfway point of the 2023 NFL season. The trade deadline is only a week away, and it might be the last time teams can improve.

In fantasy football, the waiver wire is a great opportunity for teams to get better. One running back who is on the waiver wire is Devin Singletary, and he had a big Week 6 for the Houston Texans.

After coming off a bye week, could Singletary be more involved in the offense moving forward?

Should Devin Singletary Be a Fantasy Waiver Wire Add in Week 8?

Singletary had a solid game in Week 6 for the Texans against the New Orleans Saints, finishing with 12 carries and 58 yards. He basically split the carries with Dameon Pierce, who finished with 13 carries but only 34 yards.

The 12 carries were the most carries Singletary has seen during his first season in Houston. While he had a solid game last week against the Saints, Singletary is not worth signing off the waivers wire just yet.

In Week 5, Singletary didn’t receive a single carry despite playing in the game. The Texans have been one of the most surprising teams in the NFL, in large part because of their rookie quarterback, C.J. Stroud. The rookie from Ohio State has come in and played fantastic football and is the main reason why the Texans are in the AFC South race.

While Stroud doesn’t affect Singletary’s fantasy value too much, Pierce does. Pierce is only in his second year in the league after turning in an outstanding rookie campaign. He rushed for 939 yards and four touchdowns last year while also catching 30 passes.

Pierce isn’t off to quite the same start this year, rushing the ball 97 times for 281 yards. That is only a 2.9-yard-per-carry average but don’t get it mistaken, he’s still Houston’s featured running back. Singletary has a higher but not overly impressive yards-per-carry average at 3.9, so there are systemic issues with the run game in Houston.

The Texans don’t have an elite offensive line outside of Laremy Tunsil, which has certainly been a factor in the ground game.

For Singletary, the ceiling just isn’t high enough for him to be worth signing off the waiver wire. Last week was the best fantasy week he has had in PPR leagues, and he only finished with 7.2 points. Singletary hasn’t scored a touchdown this year, which is the only way he would be worth having in your lineup.
