The superstar quarterback and the popular singer are among the biggest celebrity couples in the sports world and have been a frequent topic of conversation since their recent engagement.
After they were recently spotted cozying up on the sidelines, there have been plenty of jokes about Herbert and questions about what this means for the Chargers’ outlook in 2026.

Dave Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports, was among those criticizing Herbert for his actions on the sideline with his fiancée.

Portnoy is no stranger to making his opinions known on social media. It’s no surprise that the die-hard New England Patriots fan is clowning Herbert and disparaging another AFC contender.

The former Oregon standout has had plenty of success in the NFL, winning Rookie of the Year, amassing strong statistical numbers, and leading his team to a 52-43 record. However, quarterbacks are judged most by team success, particularly in the postseason, and over six years, Herbert is 0-3 in playoff games, still looking for his first victory.
The 28-year-old quarterback is one of the highest-paid players in the NFL, having signed a five-year, $262.5 million contract, with $218.7 million guaranteed.
While football is a team game, quarterbacks get most of the credit when a team wins, but that is a double-edged sword, and they are the ones who face most of the blame when their team loses.
Fair or not, it comes with the position, and combine the $52.5 million-a-year salary with his public relationship with a celebrity and his team’s lack of success when it matters most, and it is easy to see why the Chargers’ signal-caller is under the microscope.
With the addition of Mike McDaniel as their new offensive coordinator, and the return of his Pro Bowl offensive tackles Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt from injury, all the pieces are in place for Herbert to prove the doubters wrong.
