Mike McCarthy Coaching Career
Mike McCarthy is the Cowboys’ head coach. He did not play in the NFL, though he was a two-time all-conference tight end for NAIA Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas. He was captain of the 1986 team which finished as the national runner-up in NAIA Division II.
McCarthy’s coaching career began at Division II Fort Hays State in 1987, where he was initially a graduate assistant. He coached there for two seasons before moving on to a graduate assistant at Pittsburgh, where he worked for four seasons (1989-92).
McCarthy moved to the NFL as a Kansas City Chiefs’ offensive quality control coach in 1993. McCarthy did that for two seasons prior to being promoted to the Chiefs’ quarterbacks coach in 1995, where he worked for four seasons until 1998.
