Kirby Smart’s Georgia is once again expected to dominate the SEC in the 2026 season, but the Bulldogs found themselves in the spotlight on Tuesday for a different reason.
Georgia unveiled a new partnership with Progressive that will bring the insurer’s on-field advertisements to Sanford Stadium, prompting reactions from the college football community.
Georgia’s Progressive Partnership Sparks Jokes Over Bulldogs’ History of Missteps
Georgia’s new sponsor Progressive offers insurance for personal and commercial vehicles, motorcycles, boats, recreational vehicles, and homes.
The athletic department unveiled the partnership on Tuesday, and the agreement goes beyond on-field branding.
Progressive’s presence will also include stadium sideboards, in-venue LED displays, digital and social media campaigns, and other game-day fan engagement initiatives. The deal is expected to provide Georgia athletics with added financial support during the NIL era.
With Progressive’s branding set to debut at the start of the 2026 college football season, the partnership quickly drew attention because the Bulldogs have dealt with numerous reckless driving incidents involving players over the past several years.
CFB fans were quick to the draw as news of the partnership came to light.

“Kirby trolling us at this point,” broadcaster Ali Peek Wilbur wrote.
The discussion inevitably brought back memories of the tragic 2023 single-vehicle crash in Athens, Georgia, that claimed the lives of former Bulldogs star Devin Willock and recruiting staff member Chandler LeCroy just hours after the team’s national championship celebration. Former Georgia player Warren McClendon was also injured but survived the accident.
The issue hasn’t improved, as more than 30 Georgia players have reportedly been arrested, with many of those cases involving traffic offenses such as reckless driving.
Because of that history, many found the Progressive partnership ironic, as some believe the insurance company could benefit by marketing not only to fans in the stadium but also to the players competing on the field.

“HOF LEVEL broad strokes of paint to cover up UGA’s driving habits,” OU Insider’s Tattoo Baker wrote.
“Car insurance company sponsoring Georgia football is preaching to the choir,” the Pregame Empire page added.
Keeping aside this interesting partnership, Georgia enters the 2026 season with high expectations after posting a 12-2 record in 2025.
The Bulldogs were ranked No. 3 in the AP Preseason Poll released this week, while we at PFN gave them a #5 rank.
