Browns Projected To Land Ohio State Playmaker in 2026 NFL Draft To Make Life Easier for Shedeur Sanders

In the latest 2026 mock draft, Carnell Tate gives Shedeur Sanders and the Browns a true alpha wide receiver from Day 1.

The Cleveland Browns are once again one of the most fascinating teams entering the summer. With the quarterback position still in doubt, it might be Shedeur Sanders’ job to lose between now and the start of the season.

However, with new head coach Todd Monken in place, the team needs to give its quarterback a good base. And for one analyst, that means adding more weapons to the offense.

How the Cleveland Browns Could Bulk Out the Offense

Last season, Joe Flacco, Dillon Gabriel, and Sanders all got a chance to stand under center. Among the three, it was hard to find a clear-cut best option, with the two rookies ranking as the third-worst (Sanders) and second-worst (Gabriel) players on PFSN’s QB Impact.

However, over the final seven games of the season, the second-generation star did showcase some upside that could convince the organization to give him another chance, particularly with a draft that isn’t overflowing with top-end quarterback talent.

In those games, Sanders averaged almost 200 yards passing per game while totaling seven touchdowns against nine interceptions. But some of his flaws could also stem from the team’s overall construction.

No wide receiver ranked higher than No. 89 on PFSN’s WR Impact, while the offensive line was dead last on Team OL Impact. As a result, if he is going to continue as the starting quarterback in Cleveland, the son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders is going to need more help.

According to Ryan Moran of PFSN, that help could arrive early in the 2026 NFL Draft. In his latest mock draft, Moran pegs the Browns as the team to draft Carnell Tate out of Ohio State.

Why Ohio State’s Carnell Tate Makes Sense for Cleveland

One of the most electrifying prospects at the wide receiver spot, Tate’s numbers are undeniable. Tallying 1,872 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns over his career for the Buckeyes, he is ranked as the seventh-best prospect in the entire class by PFSN.

“He offers a tall frame with the ability to dominate downfield. Tate averaged 17.2 yards per catch in 2025,” Moran began about the talented wideout, before adding, “With his tall 6’3″ height, Tate thrives at the catch point in contested situations. He can also provide versatility in the run game, with his efficiency as a blocker.”

Ultimately, for a team lacking a true alpha wide receiver, Tate could assume that role as early as his rookie season. And his arrival could allow the Browns to get a more accurate assessment of their quarterbacks’ quality.
