The heated debates surrounding the issue of trans athletes in the WNBA show no signs of being subdued. The Indiana Fever-Chicago Sky game on Sunday night at the Wintrust Arena became the latest focal point in this discussion, as former NBA player Enes Kanter’s ejection sparked fresh headlines.
However, Dave Portnoy isn’t buying into these antics, remarking that it diverted attention from a classic Caitlin Clark performance in a 113-90 Fever win.
Dave Portnoy Lashes Out at Enes Kanter’s Actions That Overshadowed Caitlin Clark’s Double-Double
In the last few weeks, Kanter hasn’t shied away from speaking against the inclusion of transgender athletes in the WNBA. The former Boston Celtics center even lent strong support for Sophie Cunningham’s similar stance, calling the latter an “American Hero.”
Kanter has also declared for the 2027 WNBA Draft as a sign of protest against the league’s inclusive policies.
While his statements had already brought the limelight his way, the Fever-Sky game just fueled the fire even more, and Kanter was seen attending the game in a black t-shirt that read: “WOMAN noun, adult human female.”
He then got into a heated altercation with Chicago guard Natasha Cloud in the third quarter.
While Cloud’s teammate DiJonai Carrington held off the veteran guard, Kanter was ejected from the game and escorted to the front lobby by security officials.

The incident was another uncomfortable chapter in this off-court narrative around transgender inclusivity in the WNBA.
Portnoy, though, set the record straight, stating that he isn’t a fan of Kanter’s way of expressing his dissent, despite their shared ideology.
“I don’t think boys should be allowed to play in girls’ sports,” he wrote. “I also think Enes Kanter is an absolute clown for making this issue about him. We should be talking about how Caitlin had another double-double 37 and 10.”

Meanwhile, as far as the basketball product was concerned, Clark recorded her 12th double-double of the season against the Sky, anchoring the team’s offense.
In fact, the three-time All-Star’s 37 points and 10 assists were her fifth 30+ point and 10+ assist game in her career, more than the entire league combined (4).
Clark also scored 8 times from downtown, a career-high for the Fever guard. Combined with Kelsey Mitchell’s 30-point effort, Clark carried Indiana to an impressive win against a resilient Chicago that had won its previous three games.
While Kanter’s ejection and the off-court narratives about the WNBA’s inclusive policies continue to make the rounds, Clark and Mitchell continue to spearhead an Indiana offense that looks second to none as the playoffs approach.
