New York Giants’ rookie running back Cam Skattebo was turning heads this season with his tough, physical running style. Alongside quarterback Jaxson Dart, he helped inject new energy and urgency into the Giants’ offense with his aggressive, downhill approach.
Skattebo, who starred at Arizona State in college, continued to show former head coach Brian Daboll that he was deserving of the RB1 role this year. Unfortunately, Skattebo will not play again this season for Big Blue.
Cam Skattebo Injury Update
In New York’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Skattebo caught a pass from Jaxson Dart while working downfield in the Eagles’ secondary. As he was being tackled, his right foot got caught in the Lincoln Financial Field turf.
Skattebo suffered a broken right ankle, an injury that was unfortunately captured live on the broadcast. The Giants’ medical staff rushed to him immediately, and cameras showed Dart visibly shaken by what had happened to his teammate. Skattebo was eventually carted off the field but signaled to his teammates that he would be okay.
After an immediate report came out about Skattebo’s injury, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport posted on X with more information about the running back’s status. The report, needless to say, was not good.
“Giants RB Cam Skattebo, who was placed on IR yesterday, suffered not only a dislocated ankle, but also a fibula fracture and deltoid ligament rupture, sources say,” Rapoport wrote. “Surgery was right away to close the wound, and it was a success. NYG expects him back for the offseason program.”
In the PFSN NFL RB Impact metrics, Skattebo had an RB Impact Score of 76.7 and was ranked 20th in the league at the time of his injury. In the PFSN Offense Impact metrics, the Giants have an Offense Impact Score of 69.1 and grade out to a D+.

It’s a brutal loss not only for the Giants but also for Skattebo’s rookie season. Skattebo’s style was getting accolades and cheers from Giants fans who were falling in love with how tough and rough he played in the NFL. In eight games for the Giants this season, the rookie had 101 carries for 410 yards and five touchdowns.
New York Giants’ Insights for Week 12
Team:Â The Giants are 0-4 on the road when they have led by 10+ points.
QB: Jameis Winston recorded a QBi score of 80.3 (B-) in Week 11 against the Packers. It is his 22nd-best score in 90 career qualified games.
Offense: The Giants’ PFSN Defense Impact score (OFFi) of 70.0 (C-) is an improvement from the 62.7 (D-) in 2024 and 56.2 (F) in 2023.
Defense: New York currently has a 65.9 (D) DEFi score for the season. It matches the franchise’s lowest score since 2000. In 2015, Tom Coughlin’s last season as head coach, the Giants also had a 65.9 DEFi score.
Fantasy: Over the past three weeks, Tyrone Tracy Jr. has started each of them, but his snap share (54.9%) is hardly ahead of Devin Singletary (45.1%), and he has just two red zone touches over that stretch (Singletary: 15).
