The Miami Dolphins came into the season trying to find their way back to the postseason. After Tua Tagovailoa missed a chunk of the 2024 season with an injury and concussion issues, the team would have been hoping to regain its mojo from the 2023 campaign with the same core. However, the season has gone about as badly as the team could have anticipated through six weeks.
Going 1-5, not one aspect of the team has looked like a success. Even the offense, usually a surefire hit for this squad, hasn’t functioned at the same level, with interceptions galore seemingly every week. However, after they lost to the Los Angeles Chargers in a nail-biting finish, Tagovailoa had enough and blamed the players around him for the team’s struggles.

The offense has been solid in Miami despite his seven interceptions through six games. Ranking in the upper half of the league on PFSN’s Offense Impact, their performance hasn’t been the main issue.
After the game, though, Tagovailoa left no doubt about where the blame fell. First, he said, “I think it starts with the leadership and helping articulate that to the guys and what we’re expecting out of the guys.”
His next shot was directed at the people he shares a locker room with: “We have guys showing up to player-only meetings late, guys not showing up to player-only meetings. There is a lot that goes into that.”

Ultimately, he concluded, “It’s a lot of things of that nature that we’ve got to get cleaned up. It starts with the little things like that.” From a numbers perspective, though, there is a clear area where the Dolphins are falling woefully short.
For all the jokes and vitriol that the Baltimore Ravens have endured for an atrocious defense, Miami has still had a worse showing. Ranking dead last on PFSN’s Defense Impact, they are slightly worse (58.0) than the 1-5 Ravens (58.4).
But the comments from Tagovailoa, as he blatantly pointed the gun at his teammates, are yet another indication of a season that has gone terribly awry for the Dolphins, with the problems far more systematic and deep-rooted.
