Five players were inducted into Canton’s Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday, including former New Orleans Saints franchise icon Drew Brees. The former Super Bowl winner stepped on stage and captivated an audience of thousands, millions if we’re counting spectators tuning in on TV.
Brees’ words stirred up some emotions, not just among those in attendance and those hearing him on TV, but also among one of his former teammates.
Chase Daniel Moved by Drew Brees’ Mention
Playing 20 seasons in the NFL, Brees crossed paths with hundreds, if not a few thousand, of people closely associated with the game he loves. Just because he retired back in 2020, it doesn’t mean those connections ended. Some relationships last forever.
Brees took to the podium for his well-prepared speech, thanking many former coaches and players who helped him in his Hall of Fame journey. One former teammate, Chase Daniel, whom he thought of, was emotionally moved simply by being mentioned by an all-time great.
Daniel was a teammate of Brees on the Saints for five seasons, including when the team won Super Bowl XLIV. Now, all that hard work is coming back to him as he earns some respect during Brees’ incredible journey.
“Every offseason was our laboratory to test the limits and reach new heights,” Brees said. “Gerald McCoy, Charles Tillman, Chase Daniel, Darren Sproles, our offseason workouts will forever be legendary.”

That was enough, just one little line, for Daniel to be emotionally stirred. Yet, it’s because Daniel knows exactly what Brees is talking about. He can visualize it because he lived it.
“Getting mentioned by a Hall of Famer during his speech almost brought me to tears,” Daniel wrote on X. “Those workouts were LEGENDARY. We competed, pushed each other & built a brotherhood that lasts long after football.”

While Daniel lasted 14 NFL seasons, he obviously didn’t have nearly the same level of impact on the field that Brees did. Yet, that doesn’t mean Daniel didn’t leave a lasting impression on many other storied careers.
But Daniel’s work isn’t done either. Now he helps grow the game by providing his top-notch analysis on quarterbacks. He may not have had the accolades that Brees did, but that doesn’t mean Daniel doesn’t recognize excellent QB play when he sees it, and he got to be a first-hand witness to one of the all-time greats.
