How Venus Williams and Her Husband Celebrated Alexandra Eala’s Wimbledon Milestone
Eala kicked off her Wimbledon campaign in dominant fashion, securing a 6-1, 6-2 win over Renata Zarazúa. A blockbuster second-round encounter with Serena Williams was on the cards, but Maya Joint ended the American’s singles comeback in the first round to set up a meeting with Eala instead.
The Filipina faced a tough challenge against Joint, who seized the early advantage by clinching the first set. However, Eala stormed back to claim a 3-6, 6-2, 6-0 comeback victory. In doing so, she made history as the first Filipina in the Open Era to reach the third round of a Grand Slam.
Venus Williams, who is gearing up for both her doubles campaign with sister Serena and the mixed doubles contest at Wimbledon, was quick to congratulate Eala on her impressive feat with a heartfelt message.
“Congrats to my other doubles partner @alex.eala for making history,” she posted on her Instagram story.

Speaking to the press after her win, Eala reflected on how emotional it was to achieve a personal milestone while also making an impact for her country.
“It sounds super impactful. It’s an amazing thing for me to be able to do that for my country, but I guess it’s also very emotional every time I’m able to pass a new step or break new ground, just because it’s also personal goals and personal achievements,” Eala said.
The Filipina described the achievement as a testament to all the hard work she and her team had put in, saying, “It’s things that I have been working really hard for. It’s things that my team has been working really hard for. I really appreciate that I’m able to share this with the nation, but I think first and foremost it makes me super proud because of the work that I’ve put in.”
