The much-anticipated Serena Williams and Carlos Alcaraz mixed-doubles partnership at the 2026 US Open delivered plenty of memorable moments. Although their run ended in the quarterfinals, their fun off-court chemistry continues to grab attention. A recent viral moment between the two in New York has fans laughing and a little scared.
Carlos Alcaraz Gets Unexpected Hairstyle Advice From Serena Williams as Fans React
The duo, who have a combined 27 Grand Slam singles titles, thrilled the Arthur Ashe Stadium crowd on Wednesday. Alcaraz and the seven-time major champion won their opening match 5-3, 4-1 against Great Britain’s Lloyd Glasspool and New Zealand’s Erin Routliffe.
Their run ended in the quarterfinals, as Italy’s Flavio Cobolli and Swiss partner Belinda Bencic won 5-4 (7-4), 4-1 to reach the semifinals. Cobolli and Bencic later lost the final to Karolina Muchova and Jakub Mensik.
However, a lighthearted Vogue conversation about Alcaraz’s changing hairstyles got fans talking. The Spaniard asked Williams for advice on his next look, and she did not hold back.
In a recently released video, Alcaraz was asked about his next look. “I don’t know to be honest, I’ve been asking around. What should I do? Uh…” Alcaraz said.
Williams had a quick answer: “Mohawk.”
“Mohawk?” Alcaraz replied, joking that his manager, Albert Molina, “is gonna get a heart attack with that.” Williams then encouraged him to try it, saying he could always shave it off if he didn’t like it. “That’s true,” Alcaraz replied with a smile.

Alcaraz is known for experimenting with bold hairstyles. Before last year’s US Open, he had a buzz cut after his brother accidentally cut his hair, and he later switched to a platinum blonde look. He has a personal barber, Victor Martinez (known as Victor Barber), who styled his hair following the US Open.
This year, he grew out his hair and was even spotted with braids over the summer before changing his style again.
And fans had plenty to say after Williams suggested a mohawk, especially knowing he might actually take her advice.
One fan on X joked, “serena thinks this is funny she doesn’t know that if she tells carlos to get a mohawk there is like a 50% chance he will actually do it-”

A few were already preparing for a big change, with one writing, “it’s pretty obvious carlos isn’t gonna play with the long hair so get ready for a heart attack when we see him in his first match,” while another chimed in, “Serena she secretly wants Baldcaraz back”
The US Open main draw begins on August 30 at Flushing Meadows, and as the second seed, Alcaraz will be looking to defend his 2025 title.
