Heavy rain in Seoul has led to significant delays at the ongoing Korea Open, forcing the postponement of several matches. British No. 1 and former Grand Slam champion Emma Raducanu’s opening-round clash against Jaqueline Cristian was among those rescheduled for the following day. However, the recent updates indicate that the rain is set to continue through Wednesday, raising concerns among the tennis enthusiasts.
What Did the Fans Have To Say After the Rain Stopped Emma Raducanu and Others’ Matches at the Korea Open?
Raducanu had skipped the Billie Jean King Cup to focus on the remainder of the WTA calendar and had already begun practicing in Seoul ahead of her 2025 Korea Open campaign. Unfortunately for the British star and her fellow competitors, the weather had other plans.
Rain severely disrupted the second day of the WTA 500 event, with only Barbora Krejcikova managing to complete her match, defeating qualifier Tatiana Prozorova. All other matches, including Raducanu’s, were suspended at the Seoul Olympic Park Tennis Center.
According to the latest update, ongoing rain in Seoul has forced further suspensions. Russian qualifier Anastasia Zakharova’s first-round match against Sorana Cîrstea was suspended with the score tied at 2-2 in the opening set. Meanwhile, fifth seed Diana Shnaider’s clash with Caty McNally was also halted, with Shnaider leading 2-6, 6-2, 3-2.

Additionally, Raducanu’s match was rescheduled from Tuesday to Wednesday, but the possibility of play remains uncertain with persistent rain. With the China Open looming just after the Korea Open, fans have voiced concerns over whether the tournament can be completed on schedule
“No game today til 6pm local time. Can WTA even finish this tournament by the 21st? 😅” One wrote.

“welcome back wta finals cancun,” another said.
“Damn, is Seoul going to be able to finish this tournament lmao?” One expressed.
One fan expressed concern, describing it as nearly impossible for the tournament to be completed on schedule.
“Raining almost every day this whole week out there how on earth are they even going to finish this tournament in time seems impossible,” they wrote.

Another fan noted that with Beijing starting next Wednesday, organizers could extend the Korea Open to Monday if rain delays persist.
“Beijing not starting until next Wednesday does leave some room for error if the rain continues into the weekend if they’d have to do a Monday final,” they commented.
The Korea Open serves as a key tune-up ahead of the upcoming WTA 1000 events in Beijing and Wuhan, offering players high-level competition. However, concerns are mounting as matches continue to be halted, even on Wednesday, due to heavy rain. With the persistent downpours disrupting players’ rhythm, how organizers will navigate the scheduling challenges remains to be seen.
