Ben Shelton’s Toronto Triumph Earned Heartfelt Praise From Girlfriend Trinity Rodman

Shelton, the No. 4 seed in Toronto, delivered one of the most dominant weeks of his career. After receiving a first-round bye, he powered through the draw with wins over Adrian Mannarino, No. 23 seed Brandon Nakashima, No. 13 seed Flavio Cobolli, No. 9 seed Alex de Minaur, and No. 2 seed Taylor Fritz.

His final clash against No. 11 seed Karen Khachanov was a high-stakes rematch of their 2025 BNP Paribas Open meeting in Indian Wells, which Shelton won in straight sets. In the Canadian Open final, he rallied from a set down to defeat Khachanov 6-7(5), 6-4, 7-6(3), clinching his maiden ATP Masters 1000 crown in front of an electric Toronto crowd.

Shelton on His Canadian Open Win

Shelton was visibly moved as he delivered his victory speech, revealing the key figures who helped him reach his Canadian Open milestone. He thanked God for guiding his journey, then honored his mother, Lisa, his sister, Emma, and his girlfriend, Rodman. Though they weren’t in Toronto, Shelton said their support was felt throughout his title-winning week.

“I want to thank God. I feel so blessed to have opportunities like this. Not many people in life get to experience things like this. The joy that I feel today isn’t just because of the win but because of the people I get to spend every day with. The people that I love, the people that love me, the people that will fight for me, have my back,” Shelton said.

“My whole extended family, especially my mom, my sister, and my girlfriend, they’ve been with me every single day, even though they haven’t been here in Canada. And I’m just really blessed to have the people I have in my life,” he added.
