Andy Roddick Explains Why Iga Świątek is in Wimbledon ‘To Win It’ Post-Danielle Collins Thumping

Iga Świątek has entered Wimbledon “to win it” according to former World No. 1 Andy Roddick. The Pole put up a commanding performance to beat Danielle Collins 6-2, 6-3 and book her place in the fourth round of the grass-court Major.

Andy Roddick Has Revealed Why He Thinks Iga Świątek Is a Frontrunner at Wimbledon This Year

Andy Roddick lauded the former World No. 1’s performance against Danielle Collins on his podcast “Served with Andy Roddick”, stating:

“Iga was lights out.”

Roddick continued: “Iga is in this tournament to win it. I’m just telling you…That’s a tough matchup on grass on paper with Danimal (Collins). Someone that hits, hard, flat through the court.”

He particularly praised Świątek’s serve, saying she was “thumping it” during her match against Collins.

“I don’t remember her serving that big before,” Roddick said. “She was in full flight today. She looks just way more comfortable on grass this year. For some reason, she’s settled a little bit on grass.”

Following her win over Collins, Świątek said that she is feeling very comfortable on the grass this year.

“I was in the zone, and I knew that I had to be brave,” she said in her post-match interview. “I had practices where the ball was listening to me, which was pretty new on grass. Today was a good day, and it is a new experience, feeling good on this surface.”

After her third-round win at Wimbledon, Iga Świątek currently has an 8-2 lead over Danielle Collins in their head-to-head.

Iga Świątek Has Won Six Out of Seven Matches on Grass So Far in 2025

Grass has been a surface where we have not seen the best of the Pole so far. However, this year, the Pole has fared well on the surface so far. Her first tournament came at the Bad Homburg Open, where she beat Victoria Azarenka, Ekaterina Alexandrova, and Jasmine Paolini, all in straight sets to reach her maiden grass-court final, where she lost 4-6, 5-7 to Jessica Pegula.

The Pole is seeded eighth at Wimbledon and started her run at the tournament with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Polina Kudermetova. She then came back from a set down to beat Caty McNally 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 before bagging her win over Danielle Collins.

The Pole will next lock horns with 23rd seed Clara Tauson in the fourth round. Their lone encounter on the WTA Tour came in the third round of the BNP Paribas Open in 2022, with Świątek winning 6-7(3), 6-2, 6-1. Whoever out of the two comes out on top this time, will face either 19th seed Liudmila Samsonova or Jéssica Bouzas Maneiro in the Wimbledon quarterfinals.
