What Did John Harbaugh Say About Lamar Jackson’s Injury Report Error?

As reported by Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic on X: “Harbaugh said he’s not involved in the injury designations. Admitted team made an honest mistake. He said he’s hopeful that Lamar will play Thursday.”

The confusion cropped up after Lamar Jackson participated fully in practice but only ran with the scout team, rather than taking his normal starter repetitions.

Under NFL policy, a player who participates in individual drills, but for medical reasons doesn’t take his regular repetitions during the team portion of practice and is assigned to the scout team should be listed as ‘limited participation.’

Participation on the scout team, regardless of its extent, by a player whose normal repetitions would be with the starter but for their medical condition, would not alter the player’s proper designation as ‘limited participation.’

Jackson has been out with his injury since he suffered it in Week 4 against the Kansas City Chiefs. In four games, he has totaled 869 yards on a 71.6% completion rate, 10 touchdowns, and one interception. He also has 166 rushing yards and an additional score on the ground. His PFSN quarterback Impact Score is 87.3 with a B+ grade.

The Baltimore Ravens officials had acknowledged the discrepancy and updated the injury report accordingly.

“Lamar Jackson was present for and participated fully in our entire Friday practice. … Upon further evaluation today and after conferring with the league office, because Lamar didn’t take any starter reps in practice, we updated our report to reflect his practice participation,” the team said, via The Spun.

Regarding the situation, NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said on Saturday:

“The league will look into this. The league reviews any matter involving a change to a player’s status.”

While the Ravens insist the misreporting was unintentional, the team could face fines or other penalties if found to have misled the opponent.

Without Jackson, and with Tyler Huntley starting at quarterback, the Ravens defeated the Chicago Bears 30-16 behind running back Derrick Henry, breaking a four-game losing streak. Huntley recorded 186 yards on a 77.3% completion rate and one touchdown in the game.
