Rams Predicted To Trade for 4-Time Pro Bowl RB Amid Major Concerns Around Blake Corum

With a roster teeming with talent, one analyst believes a small tweak could elevate the Los Angeles Rams to a true Super Bowl contender.

As the Philadelphia Eagles marched their way to victory in Super Bowl 59, their postseason run was defined by sheer dominance. However, the one exception to that rule was the game against the Los Angeles Rams, where Sean McVay and his men gave the Eagles all they could handle. This season, they would have been hoping to take the next step to becoming a true Super Bowl contender.

The offseason brought many changes to the roster, most notably as they swapped former Super Bowl MVP Cooper Kupp with veteran wide receiver Davante Adams, while elevating Puka Nacua to the WR1 role. Up and down the roster, the team has been putting together some incredible performances. However, their 23-26 loss to the San Francisco 49ers has highlighted one area where they could aim for improvement.

Could One Tweak Elevate the Los Angeles Rams?

On both sides of the football, Los Angeles has been an exceptional unit, finishing in the top-10 on PFSN’s Offense and Defense Impact through the first five weeks of the year. All across the roster, they have players who rank near the league’s top at their individual positions.

At this point, a team rife with talent and overloaded with riches can focus on shoring up individual spots. Josh Well of PFSN believes the backup running back is an area where LA can improve.

With 2024’s success story, Kyren Williams, handling RB1 duties, Blake Corum has assumed the role of backup. A third-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, he finished his rookie season with just 58 carries for 207 rushing yards.

This year, though, his production has taken a significant uptick. Corum has had 24 carries in five games, which has allowed him to add 133 rushing yards. But Bjorn Bergstrom of PFSN believes he isn’t reliable enough for a team with Super Bowl aspirations.

As a result, he listed the Rams as a team to watch for in a potential trade for Nick Chubb of the Houston Texans. With Joe Mixon potentially coming back to the lineup and the Texans already investing in rookie Woody Marks, Bergstrom believes Chubb could become available.

Through the first five weeks of the 2025 season, he is up to 249 rushing yards, while ranking 31st on PFSN’s RB Impact. For Bergstrom, though, it is more about what Corum hasn’t proved that makes LA such an attractive choice.

“Backup Blake Corum, a third-round pick in 2024, hasn’t met expectations and has yet to solidify himself as a consistent presence in the backfield. The former Michigan standout is averaging under five carries per game this season.”

That kind of reliability from your backup running back could be the perfect recipe to keep Matthew Stafford fresh over the course of the season, as Well describes it as a move to “capitalize while he is on the roster” as well.
