Even though Brady Tkachuk tried to shut down the noise around his future, the trade speculation just won’t fade away. It picked up even more after the Ottawa Senators were swept in four straight games by the Carolina Hurricanes, a result that intensified scrutiny on the team’s direction and leadership moving forward.
Former Exec Weighs In on Brady Tkachuk Rumors
Following the 4-0 series loss, questions are once again being asked about whether Ottawa needs to shake up its core. Naturally, that conversation has drifted toward Tkachuk. The captain faced rare criticism after finishing the series without a goal or a point, along with a minus-4 rating.
Still, Tkachuk made his stance clear when speaking to the media. “I’ve been fully committed to this team, this city,” he said, reaffirming his desire to stay in Ottawa.
But despite that, the speculation hasn’t slowed down. Pierre McGuire, who served as the Ottawa Senators’ Senior VP of Player Development (2021–2022), offered his take, strongly backing the captain.
“Oh my gosh, he’s got plenty of game left. He’s a savage. He’s got lots of game left. If people knew that how hard he worked after games or on the off days, like he cares. He’s a pro. He’s a pro,” McGuire said.
McGuire also pointed to a much bigger issue than one player’s performance: injuries. Ottawa entered the series battered, missing key contributors and relying on players far from 100 percent. The absence of Jake Sanderson, a compromised Thomas Chabot, and the early loss of Artem Zub significantly weakened the blue line. That, in turn, made life much easier for Carolina’s structured, suffocating system.
Offensively, the support just wasn’t there. Dylan Cozens failed to generate any meaningful production, while Tim Stützle showed visible frustration as the series slipped away. According to McGuire, that emotional response is something the young star still needs to manage. “He can’t show that frustration. You just can’t,” he added.
As for Tkachuk’s future, the situation is actually quite stable. He has two years remaining on his deal at a team-friendly cap hit and holds control with a no-trade clause. In other words, any move involving him would be complicated and nigh impossible without his full buy-in.
The Senators now head into an offseason filled with questions, but one thing seems clear: moving on from their captain isn’t at the top of the list. The rumors may linger, but internally, belief in Tkachuk hasn’t wavered.
