‘It’s Tough Right Now’ — Frustrated Brady Tkachuk Minces No Words on Trade Rumors After Senators’ Exit

Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk is once again at the center of trade speculation after Ottawa was swept 4-0 by the Carolina Hurricanes in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Now, a frustrated Tkachuk is pushing back hard on the growing rumors surrounding his future.

Brady Tkachuk Addresses Trade Rumors Head-On

The speculation around Tkachuk has become a perfect storm, fueled by a disappointing playoff exit, family history, and the relentless pressure of playing in a Canadian market.

Even though GM Steve Staios dismissed the chatter as “nonsense,” the rumors haven’t gone away, and there are several reasons why they keep resurfacing.

The biggest spark came from Tkachuk’s quiet first-round series against Carolina. The Senators’ captain finished the sweep with zero points in four games and a minus-4 rating, which only intensified criticism and outside noise.

Some fans have also drawn comparisons to his brother Matthew Tkachuk’s departure from Calgary four years ago, adding even more fuel to the fire.

And the rumors aren’t only about Ottawa potentially moving him. Much of the noise centers around other teams wanting to pry him away, with his hometown team, the St. Louis Blues, and his brother Matthew’s Florida Panthers often mentioned as possible suitors.

But Tkachuk appears tired of hearing those trade rumors. During his media availability, he made it clear he remains committed to Ottawa. “We have taken steps. It’s tough right now with how it went,” Tkachuk said. “We have so many great players on our team.”

He then doubled down on that message. “I’ve been fully committed to this team, this city,” Tkachuk said. “I’ve always believed in this team. Playing for this city, and this city has been good to me.”

Tkachuk called the ongoing discourse “frustrating” and a “distraction,” saying he doesn’t understand why the speculation keeps following him. “I don’t get why it’s a consistent thing,” he said. “It’s frustrating to have to answer something that has never been spoken out of my mouth.”

Tkachuk still has two years left on his contract at an $8.21 million AAV and becomes eligible for an extension on July 1, 2027. But he made it clear extension talks aren’t the focus at the moment.

For now, his focus is on hearing Steve Staios’s offseason vision and where management wants to take the team.
