Justin Jefferson was all smiles after the Vikings’ 27-24 road win over the Lions, a game that snapped Minnesota’s losing streak and marked J.J. McCarthy’s return to form. The star receiver caught a touchdown, celebrated in front of Detroit fans, and praised his quarterback’s confidence and command after one of the team’s most complete performances of the season.
Details on J.J. McCarthy’s Leadership and Vikings’ Resurgence
Jefferson told NBC’s Chris Simms that the Vikings entered the week focused on resetting after their Thursday night loss.
“We feel like we have the guys out there to win games and to be something big in this league,” Jefferson said. “It’s all about taking one play at a time and going out there with energy and confidence.”
That confidence, Jefferson said, began with McCarthy.
“He’s great, man. Just the confidence he’s been playing with and him having that leadership role,” Jefferson said. “He’s been leading us in that huddle and giving us those words of wisdom and motivation. I’m glad he’s back, glad that he has that energy and confidence to go out there and ball.”
Jefferson’s first-quarter touchdown was a turning point. The star receiver caught six passes for 47 yards and a score. Despite inconsistent quarterback play all season, Jefferson ranks 13th in PFSN’s WRi.
“All week we said if we get that man-to-man press coverage, we’re going to give me a chance to make a play,” Jefferson said. “I’m just glad that J.J. saw it and gave me that shot.”

The win carried extra weight for Minnesota, which hadn’t beaten the Lions in Detroit since Jefferson’s rookie season.
“It was about time for this team to come together and make some plays,” he said. “It was great to see the guys out there having fun and playing as one.”
At 4-4, and with McCarthy as quarterback, the team remains undefeated in divisional play. The win drastically boosted the Vikings’ postseason chances according to PFSN’s NFL Football Playoff Meter.
For Jefferson, the team’s message remains the same. “The confidence needs to stay there, the energy needs to stay there. As long as we go out there and just play our ball, these outcomes will happen.”
