Sean Payton Says He’s ‘Happy With That Room’ As Broncos WRs Return From Bye

The Denver Broncos are fresh off a bye week going into Week 13. Before that, though, there were questions surrounding the Broncos’ wide receivers. In fact, the Broncos were reportedly in on Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle before the trade deadline. That said, Broncos head coach Sean Payton shut down the controversy surrounding the wide receivers’ room coming out of the bye week, saying, “I’m happy with that room.”

Sean Payton Bullish on Troy Franklin

Payton went deeper on the wide receivers’ room, specifically wide receiver Troy Franklin. The former is bullish on the latter.

Payton said, “I think (Franklin) is explosive out of his breaks. I think he’s not afraid to compete at all. He’s real good at the line of scrimmage with his releases. I think there’s a confidence that Bo (Nix) has with him. And so, it’s a little bit what we saw from Marvin (Mims Jr.). And I’m happy with that room. Those guys are all competing, working hard. And against some real good defenses.”

Franklin’s stats are below.

81-46-509-5

That’s 46 receptions on 81 targets for 509 receiving yards and five touchdowns. In fact, Franklin is WR15 in fantasy football since Week 7 — his past five games before the bye. Sutton, though, is better in real life. He is taking away opposing defense’s No. 1 cornerbacks — and sometimes getting double-teamed.

With the attention on Sutton, in 11 personnel — one running back, one tight end — Franklin is getting loose next to Sutton in the middle of the field. Now, even with Mims Jr. back, it’s spilling over onto rookie wide receiver Pat Bryant as well. The latter totaled five receptions on six targets for 82 yards. In Week 10, Bryant caught a 43-yard reception as well.

Franklin is No. 32 in PFSN’s WR Impact Score, while Sutton is No. 30. The Broncos’ offense, meanwhile, is No. 14 in PFSN’s Offense Impact Score, while the defense is No. 1 in PFSN’s Defense Impact Score.

Elsewhere, the Broncos are preparing for a matchup with the Washington Commanders this week. It’s going to be a good week for Franklin and RJ Harvey in fantasy football. Courtland Sutton is taking away the opposing defense’s No. 1 cornerback for Franklin, while Harvey paced the backfield in touches by seven in Week 11.
