Pat Surtain II: ‘We Control Our Own Destiny’ for the No. 1 Seed in AFC Conference

The 10-2 Denver Broncos are the current No. 2 seed in the AFC Conference, but Denver is in control of their destiny with five games to go.

The 10-2 Denver Broncos are the current No. 2 seed in the AFC Conference. But Denver is in control of their destiny. Because the New England Patriots have a bye in Week 14, Denver just has to win to jump into the No. 1 seed slot. Both teams would be 11-2, but Denver would have the better conference record (7-2 to 6-2). Cornerback Pat Surtain II is aware as well.

He said, “The excitement is huge obviously. I think it’s something that we sort of worked ourselves for. We worked for this moment and opportunity. I feel like the stakes are right in front of us, and it feels good when we know we can control our own destiny at this point. We don’t have to wait for teams to do this and that to get into a spot. I feel like we control our own destiny. We sense that each and every week, knowing going up against certain teams, different teams.”

The Broncos are on a nine-game winning streak, and win number 10 would obtain the No. 1 seed in the AFC Conference with four games to go. Sutain II continued, saying, “We know teams are going to give us their best shot just because the record says that for us. We know we’re up at the totem pole, and we just have to keep on executing and keep on putting our best foot forward each and every week.”

Denver is No. 14 in PFSN’s Offense Impact Score, while the Raiders are No. 23 in PFSN’s Defense Impact Score. Denver, meanwhile, is No. 2 in PFSN’s Defense Impact Score, while the Raiders are No. 30 in PFSN’s Offense Impact Score. The Broncos won the first matchup, but the score was 10-7.

After that, the Broncos play the Green Bay Packers, the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Los Angeles Chargers to end the regular season. Surtain II, No. 8 in PFSN’s CB Impact Score, meanwhile, is going to be playing in his second game in Week 14 vs. the Raiders since returning to the starting lineup from injury. His elite play is paramount to the Broncos obtaining — and holding down — the No. 1 seed in the AFC Conference before regular season ends.
