The Arizona Cardinals will give quarterback Jacoby Brissett his fourth straight start of the 2025 NFL season on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks, and he’s not taking it for granted.
Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon announced on Tuesday afternoon that Brissett would be the starter in Week 10 once again, as quarterback Kyler Murray continues his recovery from an ankle injury.
Brissett has made a career out of being a backup quarterback in the NFL, but in 2025, he has had the opportunity to turn back the clock and return to being a starter.
What Does Starting Mean To Jacoby Brissett?
This is Brissett’s 10th year in the NFL. The Cardinals quarterback was a third-round pick by the New England Patriots in the 2016 NFL Draft, and started two games in his rookie year.
In 2017, the Patriots traded Brissett to the Indianapolis Colts for receiver Phillip Dorsett. The Patriots needed receiver help with Julian Edelman injured, and the Colts needed a quarterback with Andrew Luck’s future uncertain.
The veteran quarterback played four years with the Colts and was the primary starter for two of those seasons.
Brissett started 15 games in 2017 and 2019, and played in 46 games during his tenure in Indianapolis.
Then, the now-Cardinals quarterback played for four different teams across four years before landing in Arizona in 2025.
“I think I have a greater appreciation of being in this situation, you know,” Brissett said. “Having the opportunity to go out and play and do the thing that I love to do. It’s not promised, I know that.
“I’ve been in this league for a while. I know these opportunities are precious because they don’t last long. I’m just taking it day-by-day.”
Brissett has played in 43 games across the last five years, and only 24 of those he’s been a starter for.
The veteran quarterback started 11 games for the Cleveland Browns in 2022, and five games for the Miami Dolphins in 2021 and the New England Patriots in 2024.
However, Drake Maye took over in New England, and Brissett found a new home in Arizona this offseason. Now, 10 weeks into the season, Brissett will be making his fourth start of the year.
The Cardinals are only 1-2 with Brissett as their starter, but he has the highest career completion percentage in 2025, a season in which he has started games.
Brissett is the 10th-ranked quarterback in the NFL, according to PFSN’s QB Impact, and is No. 2 in the NFL with a 50% third-down conversion percentage.
Almost half of the games Brissett has played in his 10-year NFL career have been as a backup, but he has seemed to find a rhythm with the Cardinals in 2025.
Three of the Cardinals’ best five offensive performances this year have come with Brissett as the starter, according to PFSN’s Offense Impact, and they’re converting third downs more than 50% of the time.

With Murray continuing to deal with his ankle injury, and Brissett leading the offense the way he is, it feels like the veteran quarterback has earned the starting job at least until his play falters.
