NFL Announces Major Punishments for Browns Stars

Two Cleveland Browns players received punishments from the NFL for their actions last weekend against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Here's the latest.

Anytime the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns get together, emotions run high. They did so last Sunday when the Steelers defeated the Browns 23-9, but those emotions resulted in punishments for two Browns players.

On Saturday, the NFL decided to ask these Browns players to fork over some cash.

Which Browns Players Were Fined By NFL?

According to Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal, Browns wide receiver Jerry Jeudy was fined $12,172 for getting into a fight with the Steelers’ Joey Porter Jr.

Also, Browns tight end David Njoku was fined $14,491 for making an obscene gesture. These players might appeal these fines, but the NFL is cracking down on things that happen during the game.

After the win against the Browns, the Steelers improved their season record to 4-1, but they then suffered a 33-31 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday night.

Jeudy and Njoku are still available for the Browns’ game this weekend. Whether they pay the fines or not remains up in the air at this time.

Jeudy and Porter got locked up after a play was about to end. In the midst of the skirmish, Jeudy struck Porter in his helmet with his left hand. He also attempted to hit Porter with his right hand but missed.

On the play itself, Jeudy was penalized for unnecessary roughness. Njoku will miss this Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins because of an injury.

Both of these Browns players are listed as No. 1 options on the Cleveland depth chart. For the 2025 NFL season, Jeudy has 20 catches for 240 yards and no touchdowns. As for Njoku, he has 23 catches for 223 yards and one touchdown.

Njoku was a first-round draft choice for Cleveland in the 2017 NFL Draft out of Miami. Based on PFSN’s Tight End Impact metric, he is the 30th-ranked TE in the league with an impact score of 74.1.

With Njoku out, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski will have to turn to Harold Fannin Jr. to step in as a starter. Heading into Week 7, Cleveland has the second-worst offense in the league according to PFSN’s Offense Impact metric.

Cleveland has had some quarterback trouble this season, eventually resulting in the franchise trading Joe Flacco to the Cincinnati Bengals. Dillon Gabriel is now the team’s No. 1 quarterback, with Shedeur Sanders as his backup. The Browns’ receiving corps will hope that Gabriel can do a stellar job of getting them the ball.
