Despite entering the 2023 NFL season as a dark horse to make the playoffs, the New England Patriots finished 4-13 on the season and parted ways with legendary head coach Bill Belichick. With a new head coach in Jerod Mayo, the Patriots are looking to get back to their winning ways. How many draft picks do they have in 2024?

How Many Picks Do the Patriots Have in 2024?

For most of their seven picks, the Patriots will pick mainly from their own selection slots — a fortunate sign, given that they finished third overall in the draft order. The Patriots parted ways with a sixth-round pick to the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for OT Vederian Lowe.

The Patriots also gained a seventh-round pick in exchange for WR N’Keal Harry after sending him to the Chicago Bears. This seventh-round pick replaced the one New England sent to the Las Vegas Raiders to gain a sixth-round pick — the same one they sent to Minnesota for Lowe.

New England received the Jacksonville Jaguars sixth-round pick in exchange for former starting QB Mac Jones. The deal had been negotiated during the league’s legal tampering period.

Who Did the Patriots Draft in 2023?

After trading back into the first round with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the New England Patriots spent their first-round pick in 2023 on Oregon CB Christian Gonzalez. He was playing at a high level as a rookie right out of the gate, but he suffered a torn labrum in Week 4 and was placed on injured reserve, ending his season.

New England then spent their second-round selection on Georgia Tech EDGE Keion White. The defensive end rotated along their defensive line this season and flashed disruptive play but recorded just one sack as a rookie.

With the pick the Patriots received in 2022 when the Panthers traded up for QB Matt Corral, New England selected LB/S Marte Mapu out of Sacramento State. Mapu rotated between in the box and as a “free safety,” playing in 14 games as a rookie and recording 12 tackles.

The Patriots received a fourth-round pick from the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for RB Sony Michel. They used it on Troy OL Jake Andrews, who played in two games and started the Patriots’ Week 18 game against the New York Jets at left guard.

The Patriots traded up into the fourth round to make another selection in K Chad Ryland, who made 24 of 25 extra points and finished 16 of 25 on field goal attempts this season.

The Patriots followed that selection by taking Eastern Michigan OL Sidy Sow in the fourth round as well. Sow played the third-most snaps of any offensive lineman in New England, locking down their right guard spot.

New England’s fifth-round pick was UCLA OL Atonio Mafi, who started at left guard in five games for the Patriots this season in relief of Cole Strange. Strange has the left guard job presumably secured, but Mafi’s snaps can only help him and strengthen the Patriots’ depth.

New England took two wide receivers in the sixth round, Liberty’s DeMario Douglas and LSU’s Kayshon Boutte. Boutte recorded just two catches this year, but Douglas emerged as a building block for New England, leading all New England receivers in receptions and yards this season.

The Patriots also used two sixth-round picks on two Michigan State players; P Bryce Baringer punted 40 times in his rookie year with an average punt distance of 46 yards, while CB Ameer Speed performed mainly as a special teamer this season before being waived. Speed currently plays for the Indianapolis Colts.

The New England Patriots wrapped up their draft with their seventh-round selection of Jackson State CB Isaiah Bolden. Unfortunately, he suffered an injury in the preseason that saw him placed on injured reserve and out for the season.
