The San Francisco 49ers have been battered by injuries for the last several seasons now. Brock Purdy, Christian McCaffery, and Fred Warner are just some of the key players who have missed time due to injury.
Recently, a conspiracy theory about an electrical substation next to the 49ers’ practice facility has gone viral. Now, a doctor has confirmed that at least one star player came to him about this issue.
Neurosurgeon Reveals Christian McCaffrey Reached Out About Substation Theory
McCaffrey is undoubtedly one of the best running backs in the league. However, injuries have been a recurring theme in the dynamic weapon’s career.
McCaffrey has played in fewer than eight games in three different seasons. In 2024, the star played in only four games due to Achilles and knee injuries.
On Friday, neurosurgeon Jack Kruse revealed that McCaffrey actually reached out to him about the substation issue last year, before the conspiracy theory even went viral. Kruse revealed this after popular podcaster Joe Rogan brought the theory up on his show.

Kruse lamented that Rogan and Chase Senior, an NFL analyst, are giving their opinions on the matter instead of letting real doctors lay out the facts.
“Why would anyone want to hear Rogan or you talk about something you know nothing about?” Kruse replied to Senior. “Hard pass. Get some real scientists and clinicians on there. Ask Christian McCaffery why he reached out to me about this issue last yr. Ask why his trainer came to visit me about this.”

Kruse didn’t elaborate on what he told McCaffrey and his trainer, but, interestingly, this isn’t a new concern. The 49ers are actively investigating the theory, so we should have some facts on whether the plant is to blame for the injuries soon.
49ers Consistently Winning Despite Injuries
Despite being ravaged by injuries each year, the 49ers have remained one of the most successful franchises in recent years.
The team has had five double-digit win seasons in the last seven seasons and has been to the Super Bowl twice. In 2025, the team knocked off the Philadelphia Eagles in the first round of the playoffs before falling to the Seattle Seahawks.
PFSN’s Offense Impact metric gave the team an 85.2 grade in 2025, ranking fourth in the league. PFSN’s Defense Impact metric, meanwhile, ranked the unit 26th in the league with a 67.6 grade.
