Miami Dolphins Injury Update: Mike McDaniel’s Plans for Preseason Game 3

Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel intends to play Tua Tagovailoa and the rest of his starters Saturday vs. Jacksonville. But for how long?

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The 2023 Miami Dolphins training camp is in the books, and beyond Jalen Ramsey’s damaged meniscus, they avoided major injury.

Sure, Terron Armstead, Jaylen Waddle, and De’Von Achane are dealing with minor issues, but they all have a realistic chance to play in the opener.

But there’s one more big hurdle they need to clear before they’re confident about their health: The final preseason game. And unless he’s changed his mind, Mike McDaniel plans to play most everyone who’s available.

Miami Dolphins vs. Jacksonville Jaguars Preview

The Miami Dolphins and host Jacksonville Jaguars both plan to play their starters in the final preseason game. Doug Pederson suggested that the Jags 1s might go the full half.

As for the Dolphins?

Here’s McDaniel’s plan for Tua Tagovailoa and the rest of the starters:

“The starting point was, more than a series, less than a half for all the starters. That is dependent upon [Thursday’s] practice, and overall, you’re just trying to prepare guys for the regular season.

“I had in the back of my mind that, if all things were even, Tua would play on Saturday. But that’s something that I’ll revisit with the coaches after we’ve completed this practice, kind of solidify that. But he’s been preparing to all week. I told him that after the last game. And, and so he’s prepared as though he is playing and, and we’ll revisit that after today’s practice.

He should have Tyreek Hill with him on offense. Hill was back at practice Thursday after getting a rest day on Wednesday.

But don’t expect to see Waddle (midsection), Armstead (lower leg), Achane (shoulder), and perhaps not Jeff Wilson Jr. (undisclosed) on offense.

As for defense, Ramsey (knee) is out until December. Zach Sieler (knee) will probably get the day off.

There are a number of Dolphins backups who are also banged up, including Mike White (concussion) and guard Robert Jones (knee).

The Dolphins are 6.5-point underdogs Saturday.
