Matthew Stafford is in the midst of one of his best NFL seasons. He is the favorite to win the MVP award this season, and that accolade would all but guarantee his spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
The Los Angeles Rams are also viewed as one of the top contenders for the Super Bowl this season. However, before the campaign began, there was significant uncertainty surrounding Stafford’s contract situation. The veteran came close to leaving the Rams before ultimately agreeing to a restructured deal.
Matthew Stafford’s Contract Breakdown
On March 1, 2025, Stafford signed a two-year, $84 million restructured contract extension with the Rams. The deal included $80 million in guaranteed money and an average annual salary of $42 million.
Next season, the Rams star will carry a cap hit of $48.27 million and a dead cap value of $41.87 million. The 37-year-old quarterback will be an unrestricted free agent in 2027, but it would not be a surprise if he decides to retire after next season.
So far in his career, Stafford has earned $408.3 million through his NFL contracts. He is a three-time Pro Bowler and was recently named the quarterback of the AP All-Pro First Team for the 2025 NFL season.
In 17 games this season, Stafford has thrown for 4,707 yards, 46 touchdowns, and eight interceptions, while completing 65% of his passes. As mentioned earlier, he is on track to win the MVP award and will be ready to put on a show against the Carolina Panthers in the Wild Card round.
